He may bring some value to the fantasy table next season.

Carrick has been acquired by the Maple Leafs along with Brooks Laich in exchange for Daniel Winnik, Sportsnet reports. He will draw into the lineup Monday against the Lightning, according to The Canadian Press' Jonas Siegel.

Carrick has dressed for just three games in the NHL this season, but he'll add to that total Monday. It's possible the 21-year-old will receive more opportunities with the Maple Leafs, who are going the youth route the rest of the way, so it might be worth monitoring the blueliner's ice time in the near future. However, the Maple Leafs figure to be bad, so his upside remains rather limited.

Carrick was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Monday.

Carrick was recalled by the Capitals on Friday, but didn't end up drawing into either of the two contests over the weekend. Now that the team's back-to-back set is over, he's been sent back to the club's AHL affiliate to once again serve as organizational depth. Even when he was with the big club, Carrick averaged just 10:07 of ice time over three contests and posted a minus-2 rating, leaving him with little fantasy value.

Carrick was called up on Friday by the Capitals.

EDGE Analysis

Carrick was a non-factor in his previous three outings for Washington in late December. If he suits up, coach Barry Trotz will look for the 21-year-old to contribute like he has for AHL Hersey where he has tallied 18 points in 39 contests.

Carrick was on the ice for several goals allowed over the last couple games, so the Capitals decided to send him down and replace him on the roster with fellow defenseman Ryan Stanton. Carrick will have a chance to return to Washington next time the Capitals need to bring up a defenseman from the minors.
