Carrick is still "a ways away" from returning according to head coach Mike Babcock, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
While not the most definite timetable, it seems clear that the blueliner won't be on the ice for at least the next couple games this week. His seven points in 55 games mean he isn't much of a fantasy threat even when healthy.

Carrick (upper body) was placed on injured reserve by the Maple Leafs on Monday, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move effectively rules the blueliner out for Tuesday's game against the Sharks, but he will be eligible to return as soon as Thursday against the Kings. Expect the club to make an announcement when he's ready to return to action, but his absence shouldn't be felt in the vast majority of fantasy leagues given his seven points through 55 games this season.

Carrick (upper body) is listed as day-to-day, Paul Hendrick of Leafs TV reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear how many games he will miss at this point, but the general sentiment is that a day-to-day tag is a much better sign for Carrick than what many were expecting after he took a nasty hit from Mathieu Perreault during Tuesday's win over the Jets. Look for Alexey Marchenko to see more ice time if Carrick is sidelined for long.

Carrick will not return to Tuesday's contest against the Jets after sustaining an upper-body injury.
EDGE Analysis
It's not immediately clear how Carrick sustained the injury. The 22-year-old saw the ice for 3:38 and recorded just one shot on goal before leaving for the night. He's notched just one assist in his last 19 appearances, so he's not likely to be missed by most fantasy owners if he has to miss extended time.

Carrick has two goals and four assists in 42 games this season.
EDGE Analysis
He's talented and he's getting opportunity, but he's not getting points. Carrick has skated at even strength with Jake Gardiner and seen time time on the second power-play unit. He is just 22 and his game is going to continue to grow. But right now, Carrick is best left on your wire than on your bench.

Carrick has gone 12 games without a point and just three in 29 games.
EDGE Analysis
Carrick's last point came Nov. 22 against the Hurricanes. He has been solid, but unspectacular on the blue line for the Buds, but his offence has been slow to come. Carrick did put up 42 points in 73 AHL games in his one full season there, but he just hasn't delivered with the big club. He's not worth rostering at this point unless he starts putting some of those shots in the net.

Carrick was minus-4 Tuesday in the Leafs 7-0 loss to the Kings.
EDGE Analysis
He played 14:22, the second-lowest ice time this season. Carrick and partner Martin Marincin had a rough night, but there's no indication (yet) that coach Mike Babcock will shuffle the pairings. He has fantasy potential, but he's being outmatched right now. Reserve Carrick for now.

Carrick scored his first goal of the season and registered three shots on net during Wednesday's loss to Winnipeg.
EDGE Analysis
Carrick is a talented rearguard with some offensive upside. He excelled during the AHL playoffs last spring and posted 18 points over 15 games to lead all scorers. However, he's unlikely to produce enough offense this year to be a viable fantasy option in most settings. Additionally, Carrick has averaged just 17:03 of ice time through the first three games. He has registered a plus-3 rating with seven shots on net and six hits over the first three games of the season, though, so the makings of a future fantasy asset are there for the 22-year-old defenseman.

Carrick agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Maple Leafs on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
When you have a rebuilding team like the Leafs, it's tough to keep track of all of the prospects trying to morph the original six franchise back to respectability. However, Carrick stands out from the bunch as he led the AHL's Marlies with 18 points in the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs. Originally drafted by the Capitals in 2012, Carrick has 53 NHL games under his belt at the age of 22. He'll compete for a spot on the opening-night roster in training camp this fall.

Carrick leads the AHL in postseason scoring with 14 points in 10 games.
EDGE Analysis
Carrick has stepped up his game large this postseason and is stating his case to secure a top-six role with the Leafs in 2016-17. The Leafs don't have a lot of right-handed shots on the blue line and plays bigger than his 5-foot-10, 190-lb frame suggests. Carrick is likely ticketed to the Buds' third pairing, but could end up paired with Jake Gardiner on the second pairing if newcomer Nikita Zaitsev is slow to adjust to NHL life.
