Eakin's goal was the equalizer in the third period and it sparked a rally for the visitors. Interestingly enough, all three goals from the Golden Knights were produced by first-time scorers in these conference quarterfinals. Vegas has a chance to sweep the Kings in Los Angeles on Tuesday, which obviously makes a guy like Eakin particularly valuable in survivor playoff formats.

Eakin is up to 10 goals and 25 points on the season after a highly disappointing 2016-17 campaign that saw him score just 12 points in 60 games. The 26-year-old is averaging just 14:35 of ice time with Vegas after logging just under 17 minutes per game in his four seasons with the Stars. In his current role, he may not be a 40-point scorer again, but he's a solid contributor in a bottom-six role.

Eakin accounted for two goals -- including a shorthanded tally -- as well as an assist in Thursday's 4-0 road win over the Red Wings.

This was the fourth multi-point outing of the season for Eakin, who effectively busted out of a snapping a six-game drought in said category. It's generally difficult to trust a fantasy player who's stuck in a bottom-six role, but the crafty pivot has surprised us before. Eakin's on pace for 11 goals and 17 assists by season's end.

We're convinced Eakin will slot into the lineup against the Bolts considering it was head coach Gerard Gallant who originally said the two-way forward should be fit to play. Eakin has 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) through 42 games this season, but he hasn't been a part of an expansion-club nucleus that has shocked the masses. After all, nine skaters dressed in armor have more points than Eakin, who is more of a penalty-killing specialist.

Eakin is traveling with the team, so he could still be available in time for Thursday's clash with the Lightning. In the interim, Ryan Carpenter will enter the lineup for just the second time since being claimed off waivers by Vegas on Dec. 13. Prior to getting hurt, the 26-year-old Eakin was struggling to produce, as he had registered a lone point in his last six contests.

Eakin is dealing with an undisclosed ailment, but will join the team on its four-game road trip.

The center has just one goal in his previous six outings, which shouldn't come as a surprise when you consider he has tallied a mere five shots on goal over that stretch. During his slump, the 26-year-old has logged 13:44 of ice time per game -- well below his season average of 15:11.

Eakin came to play against his former club, making the most of his 10:36 of ice time. While the 26-year-old has been centering the third line, he's still managed to be a decent fantasy contributor with 14 points in 29 contests. Eakin is worth owning in some deeper formats, but his lack of power-play time combined with several pointless streaks this season make him a tough sell in shallow settings.

Eakin has already matched the three goals he scored in 60 games last season with Dallas, so it appears the change of scenery was a good idea.

The 6-foot center has seen significantly less ice time at even strength and during power plays, so the increased scoring may not be sustainable unless he earns some of that time back.

Despite the blowout, Colorado actually did well shutting down Vegas' power-play units, yielding one goal on five man-advantage opportunities. However, the 5-on-5 play from guys like Eakin was incredibly overwhelming for the Avs. This was the Canadian's first multi-point effort of the 2017-18 season, but the Golden Knights have jumped off to a mesmerizing start (8-1-0) and that bodes well for Eakin's chances of keeping it going offensively.
