Eakin was not on the ice for warmups Thursday, likely ruling him out for the contest against the Predators, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports. Eakin took the ice for morning skate, making him a likely candidate to return from an undisclosed ailment, but his lack of presence in warmups proves otherwise. He appears to be day-to-day, and should be a candidate to play in Saturday's game against the Sharks.

Eakin (undisclosed) took part in Thursday's morning skate, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' website reports. Eakin did not practice Wednesday due to some soreness, but his participation in Thursday's morning session clears the way for him to play Thursday night against the Predators.

Eakin missed Wednesday's practice after coach Lindy Ruff said the center was "banged up" following Tuesday's game, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports. Ruff indicated that he still expected Eakin to play Thursday against the Predators, so it sounds like his absence from practice Wednesday can be treated as a maintenance day. Eakin has two goals and four points over 12 games this season.

Eakin notched a goal in Thursday's season opener against the Blackhawks. A contract dispute that kept Eakin out of training camp until the final week didn't seem to hurt him too much, as he tied for the team lead with four shots on goal in his 18:31 of action. He'll have a good chance at replicating 35-point production he supplied in 2013-14.

Eakin agreed to a two-year contract with the Stars on Monday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports. The Blues' recent signing of Jaden Schwartz likely established the framework for Eakin and the Stars to get a deal done, after the two sides had been locked in a stalemate for most of the summer. Eakin will need to catch up on some conditioning work to make up for the time he lost in camp, but he should be ready to settle in as the Stars' third-line center before the regular season commences.

Eakin hasn't made much progress in reaching agreement on a contract with the Stars, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports. Both sides will continue to work diligently to come to terms on a new deal before the Oct. 9 opener, but Eakin's ongoing absence from training camp could result in a reduced minutes load in his first few games. The 23-year-old, who finished fourth on the Stars in scoring last season with 35 points and in 81 games, will slot in as the team's third-line center once the contract squabble is resolved.

Eakin, a restricted free agent, is still without a contract in Dallas and Dallas GM Jim Nill said Friday that little progress has been made toward a new deal, according to Mark Stepneski of NHL.com. Eakin figures to get a good role on the Stars third line and a deal is likely to get worked out before opening night, but the time frame is worrisome as far as Eakin getting to camp on time. As Nill points out, Eakin can't play for a few days after a deal is signed because he'll still have to sort out immigration after the deal is put in place. Could be an issue for the team, but a late contract signing isn't likely to effect Eakin's fantasy value.

Cody Eakin is expected to fall to the third line now that Jason Spezza has been added to the Dallas Stars. That's good news for the Stars because it helps solidify their bottom-six, but obviously it'll be less pleasant for Eakin owners. He had 16 goals and 35 points in 81 games last season and isn't worth drafting in standard fantasy leagues.
