Cody Eakin played up and down Dallas' roster last season, but he may end up starting the 2013-14 campaign on the team's third line. Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News doesn't think that situation will be much of a deterrent for Eakin because he could end up playing with some talented players like first-round draft pick Valeri Nichushkin, Erik Cole, Antoine Roussel or Rich Peverley if he isn't used at center or higher up the rotation on the wing. There's also the possibility that Eakin could play on the second line while Shawn Horcoff occupies the third unit. The bottom line is that Eakin should have some good players to work with this coming season, which could help him improve on the seven goals and 24 points he put up in 48 games last year.

Cody Eakin had a goal and an assist in Dallas' 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Eakin is quietly putting together an impressive sophomore season with four goals and 15 points in 23 games this season. It probably helped that he got a chance to participate in 35 AHL games with the Texas Stars during the lockout.

Cody Eakin potted a goal as Texas beat Milwaukee on Wednesday night 2-1 in overtime. Eakin was part of the trade that sent Mike Ribiero to the Capitals. With only eight points in 30 NHL games, he didn't enjoy immediate success with the Caps, but he's only 21 and shows promise of being a scorer at the highest level. He has seven goals and seven assists in the AHL thus far.

Cody Eakin could find himself in a number of different situations at the start of the 2012-13 season. With Derek Roy projected to be out until late November, the Stars may be in need of some help down the middle if the NHL starts on time. That leaves the door open for Eakin to potentially center the team's second line between Ray Whitney and Michael Ryder. When Roy is able to return then Eakin is likely to battle for a third-line spot, but there is also the threat of him being placed in the minors because the 21-year-old is only on the second year of his entry-level deal.

The Dallas Stars think that newly acquired Cody Eakin will be a good fit for their team. Dallas got Eakin and the 54th overall pick from the Washington Capitals in exchange for Mike Ribeiro. Eakin had four goals and eight points in 30 games with Washington last season. "Cody Eakin is a young, competitive player who we've had our eye on for some time," said Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk. "He plays a solid two-way game and epitomizes the 'hard to play against' mentality we're building our team around. Cody's future is bright, and we're excited to add him to our club."

Cody Eakin has been shipped to the Dallas Stars, along with the 54th overall pick in the 2012 draft, in exchange for center Mike Ribeiro. The 21-year-old Eakin appeared in 30 games with the Capitals in 2011-12 in his first taste of NHL action. He registered four goals and four assists, while averaging just 9:16 of ice time per game. Eakin has speed to burn and he does possess offensive upside, so if he gets the ice time in Dallas he could be productive.
