Ehrhoff (lower body) took part in an on-ice session prior to Sunday's practice. The Penguins were initially hoping Ehrhoff would return from IR when eligible Saturday against the Capitals, but he didn't show enough progress with his recovery during the Christmas break for that to come to fruition. Though the Penguins are likely pleased to have him back skating, Ehrhoff won't travel with the team to New Jersey for Monday's game. Coach Mike Johnston said after Ehrhoff's workout that there were "no immediate plans" for him to rejoin the team.

Ehrhoff (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. With the Penguins already ruling out the blueliner until after the Christmas break, his placement on injured reserve doesn't really qualify as much of a surprise. He won't be eligible for activation until Dec. 29, though his return could be pushed back further if he fails to progress as rapidly as the Penguins hope. Top prospect Derrick Pouliot was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a corresponding move and could make for an intriguing replacement option for Ehrhoff.

Ehrhoff (lower body) will miss the Pens' three games before Christmas break, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. The defenseman could miss additional time, but the organization provided no further information. Ehrhoff had played in all 31 games for Pittsburgh, recording two goals, 10 points and a team-best plus-15 rating.

Ehrhoff (lower body) appears to be out of the lineup Saturday against the Panthers, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Given that the Penguins recalled two blueliners from AHL Wilkes-Barre Scranton on Saturday without any immediate explanation, it would seem to indicate that Ehrhoff, who didn't participate in the team's morning skate, will be forced to miss his first game of the season. He could be a candidate for injured reserve if the Penguins believe his injury is more serious than a day-to-day situation.

Coach Mike Johnston said Friday that Ehrhoff was suffering from a lower-body injury and remains under evaluation, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. With the extent of Ehrhoff's injury unknown at this time, the blueliner's status remains in limbo for Saturday's game against the Panthers. Brian Dumoulin would likely draw into the lineup Saturday in the event Ehrhoff is deemed unavailable.

Pens coach Mike Johnston expects to know more about the extent of Ehrhoff's undisclosed injury after additional testing Friday morning. The Penguins defenseman twice collided with the Avs' Jarome Iginla, with Iginla initiating the first check and Ehrhoff, the second one. The hits were both up high, making it possible that Ehrhoff is suffering from a shoulder-related ailment.

Ehrhoff suffered an undisclosed injury in Thursday's game against the Avalanche. Ehrhoff played the entire first period but didn't return for the remainder of the game, likely indicating the issue occurred at some point during the first period. Coach Mike Johnston didn't have an update on him after the game, but Ehrhoff will be evaluated Friday, and will likely receive an update following the evaluation.

Ehrhoff scored his second goal of the season with less than two minutes remaining in regulation to give the Pens a 3-2 win Saturday. He led Pittsburgh with a season-high seven shots on goal and also registered a pair of hits. Ehrhoff remains stuck on the team's No. 2 power-play unit behind Olli Maatta and Paul Martin but saw 2:38 TOI on Pittsburgh's second unit Saturday. The defenseman now has nine points (2G, 7A) in 26 games.

Ehrhoff practiced on Pittsburgh's No. 1 power-play Monday, an indication that the team will use him in that position against the Devils on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Ehrhoff ranks just seventh in average power-play time (1:32 TOI) on the Pens and has just one point on the man advantage in 23 contests. However, he's playing with more confidence and scored his first goal of the year Saturday. Ehrhoff will look to add to his 149 career PP points Tuesday.

Ehrhoff scored his first goal of the season Saturday night in Carolina, finishing plus-2 with three hits and four shots on goal. The goal proved to be the game-winner when the 'Canes scored in the final minute of regulation. Ehrhoff has disappointed fantasy owners with just eight points -- and only one on the power play -- in 23 games, but he does hold a team-best plus-14 rating. Olli Maatta replaced an injured Kris Letang (lower body) instead of Ehrhoff on the team's top power-play unit Saturday, limiting the German's value to even-strength play.
