Rust (lower body) won't be in the lineup for Saturday's game against St. Louis.
EDGE Analysis
Rust was a full participant at practice for the first time since suffering his lower-body injury Friday, so he's clearly trending in the right direction, but he'll have to wait for Sunday's matchup with Philadelphia for his next opportunity to rejoin the lineup. Once cleared, the 26-year-old winger will likely return to a top-six role.

Rust (lower body) ditched the non-contact sweater for Friday's practice session and could return during Pittsburgh's upcoming back-to-back, Sam Kasan of Pens Inside Scoop reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rust appears to be trending in the right direction and could be an option for coach Mike Sullivan for either Saturday or Sunday's clash with the Blues and Flyers, respectively. The winger was filling a top-six role alongside Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel prior to getting hurt, but the emergence of Teddy Blueger could relegated Rust to a bottom-six assignment to start.

Rust (lower body) was on the ice in a non-contact sweater for Thursday's game-day skate, Michelle Crechiolo of Pens Inside Scoop reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rust won't be ready to return to action versus the Sabres on Thursday, but the fact that he made the trip with the team and was able to skate are both steps in the right direction. With Zach Aston-Reese (lower body) facing a long-term absence, the Pens could certainly use Rust. For now, Teddy Blueger will continue to slot in on the second line, a spot that will likely go to Rust once the Michigan native is cleared to play.

Rust is expected to miss some time, as coach Mike Sullivan told reporters, "Rust is longer term with a lower-body injury."
EDGE Analysis
The bench boss didn't provide a specific timeline for Rust's recovery, but at best, the winger should probably be considered week-to-week until the team provides more information. In need of a player to fill out the lineup in Rust's absence, the leading candidate figures to be Theodor Blueger, who racked up four points in nine games during his previous stint in the NHL. Meanwhile, Dominik Simon could see an uptick in ice time and figures to join Jared McCann and Nick Bjugstad on the third line.

Rust didn't return to Tuesday's game versus the Blue Jackets after sustaining a lower-body injury, Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
He left the game in the first period and didn't return, but this clears up the nature of Rust's condition. The Penguins now only have 11 healthy forwards on the roster, so they'll need to dip into their AHL affiliate if Rust can't play Friday versus the Sabres.

Rust (undisclosed) left Tuesday's game versus the Blue Jackets after a collision with Adam McQuaid and didn't return for the second period, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rust went immediately to the dressing room after this hit. If the 26-year-old winger can't return for this outing, he'll look to get healthy for Friday's game versus the Sabres.

Rust scored his 17th goal of the year in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Devils.
EDGE Analysis
Rust's goal gave the Penguins their first lead of the game in the second period, with an assist from left wing Jake Guentzel. He extends his career high in tallies and now has 31 points in 59 games. Rust is currently on Sidney Crosby's line, providing a boost to his value, although skating with Evgeni Malkin as he has at times this season is nothing to sneeze at.

Rust scored two goals on four shots in a 5-3 victory against the Senators on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old had a hard time scoring early in the season, but Rust is now just a goal shy of a career high. Starting with his hat trick against the Blackhawks on Dec. 12, Rust has 13 goals and 19 points in the last 21 games. He had one goals in the first 29 contests. With 14 goals and 26 points in 50 games this season, Rust not only has a chance to post a career high in goals but also in points.

Rust garnered an assist versus the Lightning on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Rust has tallied 12 goals and 12 assists in 49 contests this season, primarily serving in a top-six role. The winger needs just four more goals to set a new career high and could top his 38-point mark from last season.

Rust tickled the twine and fired five shots on goal in Monday's loss to the Devils.
EDGE Analysis
Rust isn't working with Sidney Crosby at the moment, but placement on a line with Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel's line is hardly a demotion. He recorded his first goal after failing to light the lamp in five straight games, and Rust now has 12 goals and 23 points in 48 games.
