McGinn played his second straight game on the first line with Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Stars.

Although he failed to crack the scoresheet for the fifth straight game, this is a great opportunity for McGinn to play with the Canes' top two players. Normally a third-line checker, McGinn was averaging roughly 13 minutes in ice time over his first three games, but played a whopping 20:26 with two shots on goal Saturday. With Teuvo Teravainen currently out with an undisclosed injury, McGinn makes for a nice pickup in daily formats, but be prepared to drop him quickly as soon as Teravainen returns.

McGinn scored a short-handed goal on his lone shot and delivered a pair of hits in Wednesday's 4-3 double-overtime loss to Boston in Game 1 of their first-round series.

McGinn tied the game at 2-2 five minutes into the second period when he beat Tuuka Rask on a nifty forehand-to-backhand breakaway move. It broke an 11-game goal drought for the 26-year-old, who last scored on Feb. 21. McGinn had seven goals and 17 point sin 68 regular-season games and offers minimal fantasy upside.

McGinn saw ice time of just 10:48 in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Canadiens. He also failed to register a point for the third straight game, giving him just four points in 13 games during the month of February.

EDGE Analysis

It's been a tough season for the 26-year-old winger, who now has just 15 points through 64 games. McGinn looked to be turning a corner two seasons ago when he cracked the 30-point plateau for the first time in his career, but he's been slowly trending the other way since then. For fantasy purposes, he clearly does not boast much valut outside of very deep formats.

McGinn notched an assist and a team-high six hits in Saturday's 6-5 shootout win over the Golden Knights.

EDGE Analysis

McGinn now has points in three of his last five outings. The 26-year-old winger is up to 13 points, 81 shots and 64 hits through 55 games this season. Outside of deeper formats, it's unlikely McGinn produces enough to make an impact in fantasy.

McGinn has two goals in the last three games, although his tally Tuesday cut the deficit to 6-2 in the third period. The 26-year-old now has 12 points, 79 shots on net and 58 hits through 53 games this season. He's a bottom-six player that isn't likely to help most fantasy owners, especially with a drop in physicality after back-to-back seasons of 137 hits with 25 or more points.

McGinn has just a single assist through 10 games so far in January.

EDGE Analysis

Now with just 10 points in 50 games, McGinn will be hard-pressed to match the 26 points he posted last season. However, one glimmer of hope could be the recent return of Justin Williams, who rejoined the team just prior to the All-Star break and is currently skating alongside McGinn on the fourth line. Williams scored a pair of goals in just his second game back, so this could bode well for McGinn's own production going forward. For anyone who owns McGinn in a very deep fantasy format, this is a situation worth monitoring.

The fourth line helped spark Carolina's comeback, as McGinn set up Lucas Wallmark to get the team on the scoreboard in the first frame. McGinn has been a fixture in the lineup this year and accrued 10 points in the process, but the lines could be changing soon, as veteran Justin Williams re-signed with the team Tuesday.

McGinn is pretty much locked into a fourth-line role with the Canes this season, which is not surprising considering he has the likes of Andrei Svechnikov, Nino Niederreiter and Ryan Dzingel all ahead of him on the team's depth chart. McGinn finished the last two seasons in the 25-30 point range, but is unlikely to come anywhere close to those totals this year given his current role.

McGinn has just six points through 25 games this season.

EDGE Analysis

After taking a significant step forward with his first 30-point campaign two seasons ago, McGinn's development appears to have stalled. He is now averaging just 13:19 in ice time (a full minute lower than last season) and is playing primarily in a checking role on the Canes' fourth line. He should not be in anyone's fantasy lineup right now.
