Carolina's second-round (47th overall) pick from the 2012 NHL Entry Draft produced 30 points (16 goals, 14 assists) to complement 137 hits through 80 games this season. He's an up-and-coming winger but still seems to be a relative unknown across the fantasy landscape, so consider tabbing him as a sleeper for your next fantasy hockey drafts.

The empty-net tally gives McGinn five goals and six points over his last nine games. The 24-year-old winger is clicking well on a line with Jordan Staal and Justin Williams, so those in need of scoring help should scoop him up if in need of playoff help.

Looking ahead, with McGinn could see a larger power-play role over the next few games until Jordan Staal (personal reasons) returns to the lineup.

His limited power-play time hurts his fantasy value, but McGinn is skating on the second line and has a pretty lethal shot. The 24-year-old is having a career season and is worth owning in some deep leagues.

McGinn's season got off to a great start with 12 points in his first 22 games, but he's been very quiet since then, currently 6-for-27 since the beginning of December. Still, there's lots to like about McGinn's season thus far -- his 18 points are already a career high, his plus-minus rating currently sits at +1 (an improvement over last year's minus-11), he's shooting the puck more (1.7 SOG per game), and seeing more ice time (career-best 13:47 TOI). Crikey, he's even recorded two points on the power play, which is rare for a fourth-line player. Overall, McGinn doesn't boast a whole lot of fantasy value yet, but he's improving. He could be worth a speculative late-round add in your fantasy draft next season.

McGinn finished the month of December riding a six-game pointless streak, his longest of the season.

EDGE Analysis

The Canes are playing well as of late, with a 7-3-0 record in their last 10 games, however McGinn has not been much of a contributor. With 15 points in 37 games, he is now just one point away from last season's career high, but he still needs to show more consistency on a game-to-game basis before he can be recommended as a worthwhile fantasy option.

McGinn recorded zero points on four shots during Saturday's 3-2 OT win over Florida, but added three hits, a blocked shot and seven PIM.

EDGE Analysis

With 12 points in 24 games this season, including six goals, McGinn isn't having a bad year considering his bottom-six role. Unfortunately, he's rather streaky as far as scoring goes -- he had four goals over three games back in early November, but he's only registered three points in 10 games since then. McGinn isn't a bad pickup if you're in a deeper fantasy format, but be prepared for long droughts where you don't see much out of him.
