DAILY PRIME- MARCH 23, 2014: MALKIN, CROSBY, QUICK AND MORE primepucks.com Sun 3/23/14 9:10 AM

Lots of activity in the NHL yesterday with 11 games played, so we have a lot to go through. The Flyers and St. Louis kicked things off with Philadelphia winning 4-1.  Steve Mason was very solid in goal for the Flyers with 32 saves. His record on the year is now 30-16-6 with a 2.52 GA and a .918 SP.  Not a bad season!  Left wing Scott Hartnell had a goal and an assist, and he has been hot lately with 5 points in his last 3 games. Still he has only 46 points on the year.  Young Blues left wing Jaden Schwartz scored their only goal, and he now has 52 points. Look for him next season, as this kid is only going to get better.  The Penguins topped Tampa Bay 4-3, and the big guns were all over the scoreboard.  Evgeni Malkin had a big game with 2 goals and 2 assists for Pittsburgh, while Sydney Crosby had a goal and 2 assists. Steven Stamkos had a goal and an assist for the Lightning. The Red Wings beat Minnesota 3-2, as defenseman Brendan Smith had a goal and an assist. Smith has only 17 points on the season so don't go after him. Dave Leqwand, also, had a goal and an assist for Detroit, but with only 47 points on the year I would not chase him either. The Stars beat Ottawa 3-1.  Boy Ottawa is having a tough year. Kari Lehtonen had 26 saves for the win in goal, and he has 26 wins on the season. Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson got their only goal, and this guy is a monster with 19 goals and 65 points on the year.   LA shutout Florida 4-0, as goaltender Jonathan Quick had 24 saves. Big night for Quick as he surpassed Rogie Vachon as the winningest goaltender in LA history with win number 172.  Congratulations to him!   Montreal got past Toronto 4-3, as each team's right wings Brian Gionta and Joffrey Lupul had a goal and an assist. Neither is fantasy worthy though.   The Rangers shutout New Jersey 2-0, as goaltender Henrik Lundqvist had a big night with 21 saves, and he surpassed Eddie Giacomin for the franchise record with his 50th shutout. Congratulations to him as well!   Carolina beat Winnipeg 3-2, as goaltender Cam Ward had a good night with 34 saves. Maybe he is coming back to life after a difficult season.  We shall see.  Defenseman Andrej Sekera had 2 assists for the Hurricanes, and he is having a great season withh 11 goals and 44 points. Jarome Iginla may be getting up a bit in age, but it sure isn't affecting his play as he had 2 goals last night in Boston's 4-2 win over Phoenix. Goals number 27 & 28 on the year. Tuukka Rask was sharp in goal for ...

Line Change: Smith will move to forward vs. Toronto tonight. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 3/18/14 2:56 PM

With all the injuries in Detroit, they are desperate and have resulted to moving D-men up front. Smith says that he has not played forward since he was 15/16 and playing AAA on a line with Sam Gagner and John Tavares. Unfortunately for him, his linemates are likely going to be Cory Emmerton and Teemu Pulkkinen, a small step-down from Gagner and Tavares I'd say.

Injury: Smith (shoulder) returns to the Red Wings lineup tonight. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 11/19/13 2:56 PM

Smith missed the last six games, in which the Red Wings went 0-5-1. Smith has had a slow start to the season with just one assist and a minus-7 rating in 11 games. He will dress as the Red Wings seventh defensman vs. the Predators tonight. He has no fantasy value until he starts putting numbers on the stat sheet.

Injury: Smith (shoulder) expects to play on Tuesday. dailyfaceoff.com Mon 11/18/13 2:56 PM

Smith has missed the last six games after suffering a shoulder injury on November 2. Once considered a top-prospect with loads of offensive upside, Smith had just eight assists in 34 games last season and has only recorded a single assist with a minus-7 rating in 11 games this year. The Red Wings may dress seventh defensemen tomorrow, so it is unknown where Smith will slot in.

Injury: Smith (shoulder) does not appear to be ready to return tomo... dailyfaceoff.com Thu 11/14/13 2:56 PM

Smith skated on the Red Wings extra pair this morning suggesting he will not be in the lineup tomorrow. Smith has missed the last four games after being injured on November 2. He has one assist and a minus-7 rating in 11 games.

Injury: Smith (shoulder) hopes to play this weekend. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 11/12/13 2:56 PM

Smith was ruled out of tonight's game on Monday but he could dress on Friday vs. Washington or Saturday vs. the Islanders. Smith has struggled to start the 2013-14 season with one assist and a minus-7 rating in 11 games. Xavier Ouellet will play again tonight.

Injury: Smith (shoulder) will not play tomorrow. dailyfaceoff.com Mon 11/11/13 2:56 PM

Smith is eligible to come off of IR and play on Tuesday, but Red Wings coach Mike Babcock says he is not ready. Xavier Ouellet will stay in the lineup. Consider him questionable for Friday vs. Washington.

Injury: The Red WIngs have placed Brendan Smith (shoulder) on IR. dailyfaceoff.com Mon 11/4/13 2:56 PM

The Red WIngs announced that the injury will cost him at least a week, so the move to IR allows them to recall Adam Almquist. Smith has had a rough start to the season posting just one assist and a minus-7 rating in 11 games.

Line Change: Brendan Smith out; Brian Lashoff in. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 10/12/13 2:56 PM

Smith is averaging just under 18 minutes a game (17:58) and is a minus-4 with no points in four games. He is one of Detroit's top-defensive prospects so don't expect him to sit for too long.
