Smith scored a shorthanded goal on three shots and added two hits in Saturday's 5-3 loss to Utah.
EDGE Analysis
Smith put the Stars ahead 2-1 with his shortie early in the second period, though Sean Durzi offered a quick response for Utah before the power play ended. The goal was Smith's first in 30 games with the Stars this year, to go with four assists, 26 shots on net, 38 hits, 21 blocked shots, 31 PIM and a minus-8 rating. The 36-year-old has been in a reserve role most of the time, but he got to play while the Stars held Thomas Harley and Esa Lindell out for maintenance reasons, likely in an effort to give their top healthy blueliners some rest before the playoffs. Smith could be a regular in the lineup to close out the regular season, but he'll probably be a scratch for most of the postseason unless injuries arise.

Smith logged 15:17 of ice time in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
Smith had been scratched for the previous four games, but he was needed in place of Lian Bichsel (illness) in Friday's contest. The 36-year-old Smith has had trouble seeing anything more than part-time usage in 2024-25. He's at four assists, a minus-9 rating, 23 shots on net, 31 PIM, 36 hits and 20 blocked shots through 28 appearances in his first year with the Stars, and he'll likely head back to the press box when Bichsel is ready to play again.

Smith logged an assist and five PIM in Friday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Kings.
EDGE Analysis
Smith set up a Matt Duchene tally late in the first period and then closed out the frame by fighting Tanner Jeannot. The 36-year-old Smith saw some action as a seventh defenseman late in January, but he was in the lineup Friday to cover the absence of Ilya Lyubushkin (undisclosed). Smith is likely to be scratched again when Lyubushkin returns. For the season, Smith has just four helpers with 19 shots on net, 31 PIM, 31 hits, 15 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating over 23 appearances.

Smith has been scratched for 11 of the Stars' last 12 contests after sitting out Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs.
EDGE Analysis
Smith appears to be on the outside looking in with the Stars' blue line at full health. The 35-year-old defenseman could offer a challenge to Matt Dumba or Nils Lundkvist, but Smith has been middling at best in 2024-25 with three assists, a minus-3 rating, 20 PIM, 19 hits and 13 blocked shots over 16 appearances. Smith is not even guaranteed to be the first blueliner to jump into the lineup, as Dallas has often called up prospect Lian Bichsel to cover injury or illness absences on defense.

Smith was scratched for the seventh straight game when he sat out Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Predators.
EDGE Analysis
Matt Dumba (upper body) was unavailable Thursday, but the Stars recalled and played Lian Bichsel rather than have Smith join the lineup. That's not a ringing endorsement on Smith's play so far. The 35-year-old has three helpers, eight shots on net, 11 PIM, 18 hits, 11 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating over 12 outings, though he hasn't earned a point since Nov. 14. He hasn't played since going minus-4 in a game versus the Blackhawks on Nov. 27.

Smith registered two assists, two hits and two PIM in Monday's 7-1 win over the Penguins.
EDGE Analysis
Smith checked back into the lineup for Matt Dumba in this contest. The 35-year-old Smith has most often been a healthy scratch this season, sitting out eight of the Stars' 14 games so far. He's collected two assists, three shots on net, 10 hits, five blocked shots and a plus-1 rating over his six appearances, filling a third-pairing role when in the lineup.

Smith (undisclosed) will be in the lineup for Saturday's game against Edmonton, per the NHL media site.
EDGE Analysis
Smith appeared to be injured when he absorbed a crosscheck during Thursday's 3-2 loss to Washington, but he won't miss a game following the incident. The 35-year-old defender has no points, two shots, four hits and three blocks in three appearances this campaign.

Smith (undisclosed) will probably play Saturday versus Edmonton, but his availability isn't certain, according to Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Smith played through Thursday's 3-2 loss to Washington, but he appeared to be hurt after absorbing a crosscheck during the clash, per Assimakopoulos. The 35-year-old Smith was able to participate in Friday's practice, though, so it seems his injury isn't major. He has no points, two shots, four hits and three blocks across three appearances this season.

Smith signed a one-year, $1 million contract with Dallas on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Smith accumulated five goals, 15 points, 60 shots on net, 61 PIM, 101 blocked shots and 117 hits across 63 regular-season games with New Jersey in 2023-24. He will serve as a depth defender for the Stars.

Smith had a goal and two assists in a 4-3 win over Ottawa on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
He wired a slap shot from the point that went high glove in the first period that pushed the score to 3-0. Smith now has goals in back-to-back games and 14 points (five goals, nine assists; 54 shots) in 58 games this season. He's not much of a fantasy force, but it's been a solid couple of games.
