Matthews set a new franchise record for goals by a rookie when he sniped his 39th of the season Monday night in a 4-2 win over Buffalo.
EDGE Analysis
He now holds the franchise rookie record for both goals (39) and points (67). With one more goal, Matthews could be just the second rookie in the last two decades to score 40 goals. Alexander Ovechkin had 52 for the Caps back in 2005-06. Matthews' goal also tied another Leafs' rookie record by scoring in five consecutive games. One word. Wow.

Matthews notched his eighth game-winning goal of the season in Saturday's 5-4 victory against the Red Wings.
EDGE Analysis
The eight GWGs ties a franchise record set by Howie Meeker in the 1946-47 season. Matthews has been everything as advertised for the Leafs, who are on the verge of making the playoffs for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

Matthews tied the franchise's record for goals scored by a rookie with his 34th goal of the season in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Sabres.
EDGE Analysis
The record was held by Leafs' icon Wendel Clark. Matthews is on a five-game, six-point scoring streak that includes three goals and the same number of assists. He's back on track offensively. Use him well.

Matthews handed out two assists (one on the power play) in Thursday's 4-2 victory over New Jersey.
EDGE Analysis
He recently dragged his owners down with a seven-game point drought, but Matthews has recovered with a four-game point streak in which he's picked up a pair of goals and three assists. The No. 1 pick of last year's draft has now hit 60 points in 73 NHL games, with 19 of those having come on the power play. Of course, the best part about Matthews is that he's got the potential to dwarf this production in the future.

Matthews snapped a seven-game point drought with a goal in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Blackhawks.
EDGE Analysis
It was a pretty tap-in on a saucer pass from William Nylander. Matthews has 32 goals, which is good enough for ninth overall in the NHL and one shy of the rookie leader, Patrik Laine.

Matthews looks to end five-game point drought Tuesday night against Florida.
EDGE Analysis
It ties his longest drought of the year -- the first five games of an eventual 13-game goal drought that began in late October. Matthews is still earning the same ice time as usual and firing lots of shots. But games are getting tighter and more disciplined, especially as teams work hard to stay out of the penalty box for fear of the NHL's best power play. Matthews will get back on track soon, but his early pace may be hard to match.

Matthews scored twice in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to Montreal.
EDGE Analysis
Matthew now has 30 goals in his rookie season and is tied for second in the league with Jeff Carter and Patrik Laine. Yes -- second! And he's tied with five other players, including Alex Ovechkin, Nikita Kucherov and Artemi Panarin, for 15th on the overall scoring list with 54 points. We knew Matthews was good, but this exceeds all expectations.

Matthews racked up three assists -- two on the power play, the other on the game-winning goal -- in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime victory against Winnipeg.
EDGE Analysis
Is he good? He is good. This latest piece of work gives Matthews a cool 12 points in his last 10 games, and you have to give him a narrow edge over fellow Calder competitor Patrik Laine (two goals) in this one, as Matthews did after all achieve the desired outcome of winning. Those two are set to duke it out for the NHL's top rookie honors down the season's stretch run, with Laine currently edging Matthews by two goals with four games in hand.

Check out this list -- Vladimir Tarasenko, Max Pacioretty, Patrick Laine and Mr. Matthews himself. And ahead sits just Sid the Kid and Jeff Carter. Matthews' ceiling is cathedral-like and we can't wait to see how high it really is.
