He's been better than Charlie Lindgren, but the Canadiens are invested in Lindgren. At the very least, the 34-year-old Niemi has revived his career and should find employment next season, after it looked like he was done in earlier stops in Pittsburgh (.797 save percentage) and Florida (.872).

Niemi has been spectacular with the Canadiens, prompting the old adage "the third time is a charm" after he fell out of favor in Pittsburgh and Florida this season. Specifically, he's gone 4-2-3 with a 2.38 GAA and .931 save percentage through 12 games. Of course, he could get shredded against the league's top offense in Saturday's matinee, so only deploy Niemi if you're desperate for options in goal.

Niemi didn't dress for Tuesday's game against New Jersey due to a lower-body injury, but he's evidently now healthy enough to take in Thursday's tilt from the bench, and he'll likely get the starting nod for Saturday's matchup with Tampa Bay.

Niemi -- who has been taking on the bulk of the starts in Carey Price's (concussion) absence -- registered a 2-1-2 record in his prior six contests. Compared to his season average (3.41), the netminder's current 2.38 GAA with the Habs looks relatively decent. Considering the 34-year-old has a mere four wins in 17 outings -- split between Montreal, Florida and Pittsburgh -- he should probably be considered a high-risk (low ownership) fantasy option.

Whoa -- Niemi looked every bit a stud Saturday. And with Carey Price on the shelf, Niemi is going to need to keep this level of excellence up for the near future. That said, scoop him up and wring every bit of life out of Niemi.
