Niemi allowed three goals on 28 shots in Monday's 7-3 win over Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
Oddly enough, in both of Niemi's starts this year, he's yielded exactly three goals on 28 shots en route to victories. He's been solid while Carey Price has missed the last two contests with an illness. Montreal's next game will be Wednesday against the Blues and the goalie situation remains unclear for the time being.

Niemi will get the start at home versus the Red Wings on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA reports.
EDGE Analysis
Charles Lindgren was returned to the AHL, which made it seem like Carey Price (illness) was ready to play again. Perhaps he's ready to be a backup, but isn't quite up to starting just yet. Niemi has a career .913 save percentage, so the Red Wings are probably happy to see him in net instead of Price.

Niemi made 25 saves through overtime and stymied the Penguins in the shootout Saturday to deliver a 4-3 win for the Canadiens.
EDGE Analysis
Niemi was particularly sharp in the shootout, shutting down both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin to preserve the win. It was Niemi's first game of the season. He'll see limited action this season behind Carey Price.

Niemi will start against the Penguins, John Lu of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Carey Price came up with a bout of the flu and will not be able to dress Saturday, so Niemi gets his first start of the season while Charlie Lindgren is called up from AHL Laval.

Niemi made 29 saves in Monday's 5-1 preseason win over the Maple Leafs. He also had an assist in the game.
EDGE Analysis
While Niemi benefited from facing a Toronto team that sat out most of its regulars, he was still busy, with 18 saves on as many shots in the opening frame alone. Kasperi Kapanen beat him with Toronto's first shot of the second period just 34 seconds after intermission, but Niemi rebounded by stopping the Maple Leafs' 11 subsequent shots in the game and even picked up a helper along the way.

Niemi will tend the twine against the Maple Leafs on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Niemi started last season with the Penguins and made a brief stop with the Panthers before finally landing with the Habs. The veteran netminder will serve as the backup to Carey Price this year and should see around 20-25 games -- mostly one side of back-to-back outings.

Niemi will start Monday's preseason clash with New Jersey, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Niemi will likely feature for just a portion of the game, before Charlie Lindgren comes in to close it out. The 35-year-old Niemi went 7-5-4 for the Habs last season in relief of Carey Price and should see about the same number of games (19) this year.

Niemi agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Montreal on Tuesday worth $950,000.
EDGE Analysis
After a disappoint start to his 2017-18 season with Pittsburgh and Florida, Niemi finally settled with the Canadiens, as he went 7-5-4 with a 2.46 GAA in 19 appearances. The Habs obviously liked the netminder's body of work and at a relatively discounted $950,000, won't break the bank for a No. 2 behind Carey Price. Even if the Finn does struggle, the club still has Charlie Lindgren waiting in the wings.

Niemi stopped 23 of 26 shots to pick up the win in Thursday's 4-3 victory over Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
This was Niemi's final start of the season and while he wasn't at his best, he's done enough with the Canadiens to warrant interest when free agency picks up in the offseason. He entered the game with a 2.46 GAA and .929 save percentage, far better numbers than we've seen from Carey Price.

Niemi will be between the pipes against the Red Wings on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thursday's contest could be the last start for Niemi in what has been a disastrous season. The netminder -- who started the year with Pittsburgh -- played in 23 games across three teams and registered a 6-9-4 record with a 3.12 GAA. His numbers with Montreal have been significantly better (.931 save percentage), compared to his stops with the Penguins (.797) and Panthers (.872). The 34-year-old will be looking for a new contract this offseason and may have done enough to secure a short-term deal from the Habs.
