Lander will be scratched in Thursday's game against the Stars, reports the Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson.

The writing was on the wall. Lander has not been playing well. He's currently in the middle of a seven-game slump over which he's produced a measly two shots. His minutes have been plummeting and there's been little to salvage in terms of fantasy production.

Lander scored his first goal of the season during Tuesday's game against Toronto.

After scoring a single goal through 61 games last year, expecting offense from Lander is ill-advised. He is playing limited minutes (9:48 on Tuesday) and has totaled just five shots through nine games this season. He's off the fantasy grid in most formats.

Lander was placed on waivers by the Oilers on Monday.

The Oilers have a number of talented centers on the squad, which forced out Lander. If he clears waivers, he will start the season with AHL Bakersfield.

At one time the Oilers had hope that Lander would be come a second line center but those prospects seem dim at best. The Oilers are loaded at center with Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins so his future may not be with the team.

Lander hasn't scored a point in 20 games this season so the only question that should really be asked is what took the team so long to make this move?

Lander scored three goals on four shots in Tuesday's preseason victory over the Coyotes.

The 40th overall pick in the 2009 draft, Lander was very good in limited action last season. He scored six goals and 14 assists in 38 games. He's been a proven scorer in the AHL, scoring 31 points in 29 games and could be a good contributor in the Oilers' bottom-six this season.

Lander posted a power-play goal in Friday night's 4-3 OT win against the Jets.

Lander, who compiled four goals on the man advantage last season, finds himself in a tricky situation as a new season draws near. Edmonton is absolutely stacked with heralded young centers projected ahead of him on the depth chart, including playmaker Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and this year's talk of the town, Connor McDavid, an 18-year-old who's already being included in the same conversation as fantasy studs like Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. Lander has had two consecutive seasons with 56 points and a minus-12 rating. He seems destined for a bottom-six role and there's also the possibility that he boards the bus that heads for AHL Oklahoma City this year.

Lander signed a two-year contract extension with Edmonton on Thursday, according to the Oilers web site. Lander has played in 33 games for Edmonton this season accumulating six goals and 17 points. He will continue to fill a bottom six forward role for the Oilers in the future.

Lander set up two goals in Monday's 4-1 win over Colorado. Lander has produced at a decent rate when in the lineup this season, posting 17 points in 32 contests (0.53 points per game). He doesn't shoot a ton (48 SOG) and of course owns a minus rating (minus-10), as all but two Oilers that have played more than 25 games are on the negative side of the ledger. The 2009 second-round pick is still just 23, so look for continued development from the Swede next season.

Lander picked up two assists in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Avalanche. Lnder has played well in limited action this year, posting six goals and nine assists in just 30 games. He's still just 23 years old, so he could be a viable fantasy option in the future if his production continues to trend upward.
