Shaw scored two goals on five shots and was plus-2 with seven hits and two PIM in a 5-4 loss to San Jose.

Returning for a second stint with the Blackhawks, Shaw collected his first two goals of the season in just his second game back. The 28-year-old spent his first five NHL seasons in Chicago before moving on to Montreal for three years. Shaw had 19 goals in 63 games for the Habs last year and could approach that total again this year.

Shaw was traded to Chicago from Montreal with a seventh-round pick in exchange for a second- and seventh-round pick in 2020 and a third-round pick in 2021 on Sunday, Mark Lazerus of The Athletic reports.

Shaw tallied his second helper of the evening on Max Domi's empty-net goal late in the third period, with his first assist coming earlier in the game, on Shea Weber's game-winning blast. The rugged forward needs just one more point to tie his career-best campaign from 2013-14. That year, Shaw, in 80 games, recorded 39 points. Assuming he plays all of the remaining games this season, Shaw will finish with 63 games played in 2018-19, making this year the best of his career from a point-per-game standpoint.

Shaw scored his 17th goal of the season in a 5-2 loss to the Sharks on Thursday.

Shaw hadn't scored since a hat trick on Feb. 26, but he was able to convert one of his two shots in Thursday's game. In his last four games, he has 13 hits and a minus-3 rating. He has 34 points and 95 hits over 49 games this season, which might appeal to fantasy owners in deeper formats.

Shaw put on an offensive clinic Tuesday, scoring three goals in an 8-1 win over the Red Wings.

Shaw's first of the night came off a great pass from Max Domi which gave Montreal a 2-0 lead early in the second period. The rugged winger scored his second before the end of the second and finished off his first career hat trick with a goal in the latter stages of the third period. Since returning from a 15-game absence due to a neck injury, Shaw has nine points in nine contests. On the season, the 27-year-old has scored 16 times and recorded 33 points in 45 games.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring and then posted an assist for his second multi-point game of the month. With 13 goals and 30 points in 43 games, this is already Shaw's best season since joining the Canadiens before 2016-17. He's on pace for his most goals since 2013-14 and a career-high in points.

Shaw and Tomas Tatar worked a nifty give-and-go to set up Tatar's 18th goal of the season, which briefly tied the game in the third period. He has points in both games since returning from a 15-game absence due to a neck injury and made the scoresheet in 12 of his last 16. An improved supporting cast in Montreal has led Shaw's best season in terms of offensive output. The 27-year-old forward is averaging a career-best .71 points per game (27 points, 38 games), putting him on schedule to beat the 39 points he scored 2013 as a member of the Blackhawks. He's still abrasive but has adjusted his game since his first year with the Canadiens. No longer recklessly throwing his body around nor taking dumb penalties, Shaw is taking advantage of extra ice time to give Montreal scoring depth.

Shaw (neck) returned to action Saturday and immediately delivered a goal and an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss to Toronto.
