Andrew Ference scored his second goal of the season on Sunday.
The goal in the third period tied the game at two apiece as the Oilers eventually won in a shootout 3-2. Ference has only two points this season in 28 games but his value on the ice is in his defensive play and his veteran leadership role. Unfortunately this does not translate to fantasy hockey so he has little to no value.

The Edmonton Oilers have won three consecutive games, with 14 unanswered goals in the process.
Things are finally clicking for the promising Oilers. "Obviously it didn't happen as fast as we wanted," said Ference. "But these last couple have been a lot more promising, seeing guys being a lot more committed to certain ideas. That's the best way to cement in certain ideas, to have success with them, and the last couple of games have really done that for a lot of guys." Ference also said: "The guys are getting it, there's been a lot more solid play in our own end. Whether it's breakouts or backchecking or little positional plays that have really helped - those things are starting to click and we're being rewarded with more goals and more opportunities in the other end."

Edmonton Oilers captain Andrew Ference is "sick" of what's going on with his team.
Edmonton has lost five straight to fall to 3-10-2 this season. In a year where they're supposed to be finally moving beyond the rebuilding process, they instead look like competitors for another first overall pick. "Everybody is saying the right thing but it's the action that matters," Ference said. "It's like nothing soaked in. We have to hold each other accountable because there's no excuse for it."

Andrew Ference had a big game Saturday as he had seven hits.
Ference, the newly named captain of the Oilers, also had two blocked shots but gave the puck away four times in a 6-5 loss to the Maple Leafs. It more than doubled his hit total as he now has 13 for the Oilers this season, third on the team behind Mike Brown and Ladislav Smid. He has little other fantasy value except in hits and blocked shots.

Oilers captain Andrew Ference sees the six-game road trip as a chance for the Oilers to form their identity.
"The road trip is what you make of it," said Ference. "Home or away, there is opportunity to build your team and build your identity. The road is nice if you play the right way and maintain a focus on what you're trying to do. It gives you a chance to simplify your game, which for us, has been our best portions of the game. If you do it the right way and approach it the right way, I've seen road trips change seasons for the better." The Oilers have just one win on the year, and the season could get ugly with a poor record on this road trip.

The Edmonton Oilers gave Andrew Ference and Ladislav Smid a "maintenance day" on Sunday.
Let's hope it's just a minor issue for the Oilers captain Ference and one of the Oilers' most underrated pieces in Smid, as Edmonton needs all the help it can get in its own end.

The Edmonton Oilers have named Andrew Ference as their captain.
The Oilers inked Ference in the off-season to a contract after he left the Bruins and he will replace the departed Shawn Horcoff as the Oilers 14th captain. Ference will provide leadership and bring the winning attitude over from the Bruins as the Oilers last made the playoffs in the 2005-06 season.

Andrew Ference should provide the Edmonton Oilers with leadership this season.
The Oilers have been in a losing environment for so long that and adding a player like Ference, who has experienced plenty of success with Boston, will help. His experience will be a good tool to direct the younger leadership group that already exists in Edmonton. Ference is also expected to help groom sophomore defender Justin Schultz this season and the two of them might be paired together during the season.

New Edmonton defenseman Andrew Ference, 34, says the upstart Edmonton Oilers remind him of the team he left, the Boston Bruins.
"Everybody now talks about Boston as so mature and battle-tested with all the playoff experience," Ference said. "But when I went there, it was a bunch of guys with no playoff experience and a team that hadn't been in the playoffs for a number of years. You realize how to build on potential and how the tide can turn fairly quickly. You look at [the Oilers] and how close the team is to getting over that hump. It's exciting. To see potential turn into reality is something I want to be a part of, especially in a city like this that cares so much."
