The defenseman left Saturday's game, and the injury is significant enough to continue to linger. He has been very productive for a blueliner, tallying 21 points in 31 games, so his absence would hurt fantasy owners and the Canadiens alike. If he's unable to go, Nathan Beaulieu should see a bump in playtime.

Markov left Saturday's game against the Capitals with a lower-body injury and will not return, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.

The extent of Markov's injury is not yet certain, but it will prevent him from finishing Saturday's contest. His status will be updated again prior to the Canadiens' next game Tuesday against the Ducks.

Markov's minutes, promised to be monitored closely this year, have been creeping up over the past several games; a sustained return to his old levels would be a boost to his already rock-solid fantasy value.

Markov collected two assists with two shots on net and a plus-2 rating during Friday's loss to Carolina.

The two-assist night extended Markov's point streak to seven games, and he has two goals and eight helpers with a plus-7 rating during the stretch. Markov has averaged 45.7 points per year through the previous three seasons, and he's well on his way to another strong offensive campaign with two goals and 12 assists thus far.

Markov scored a goal -- his second of the season -- and chipped in a helper in a 3-2 loss to the Blackhawks on Sunday.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran rearguard has been on quite the roll since Nov. 5, putting up seven points over an impressive five-game point streak. Markov also saw a season-high 25:19 of ice time against Chicago, which makes sense given how productive he's been lately. All told, he's got 11 points in 16 games this season, which amounts to a 56-point pace over a full season, and while he likely won't continue to produce at that clip, there's still plenty of value to be had with the 37-year-old.

Markov scored a goal and assisted on another in Montreal's 5-4 win over Philadelphia on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

Markov rebounded from a harrowing game Friday, when he was minus-4 in the Habs' 10-0 loss to the Blue Jackets, to record his first multi-point effort of the season, which included his first goal of the season. Montreal head coach Michel Therrien has him on the second defensive pairing, which has reduced his ice time to the 20-minute range. That's about three-to-five minutes fewer per game from previous seasons, but he still gets ample ice time on the power play and should be a top-20 point producer among defensemen, given good health.

Markov handed out an assist and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 4-0 romp against the Penguins.

EDGE Analysis

As promised, his even-strength minutes have been dialed back a bit, but Markov is still seeing massive power-play time -- more than 10 minutes in total over the first three games. Tuesday's helper was his first point of the year, but the 37-year-old blueliner is still a significant fantasy asset as long as he can stay healthy, as he has recently. After struggling with knee problems in his early 30s, he's only missed a total of two games over the last four seasons.

Markov will be limited to 20 minutes per game this season, according to Montreal head coach Michel Therrien, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.

EDGE Analysis

Therrien tried to limit the 37-year-old defenseman last year, but injuries forced the coach to use him close to 24 minutes per night. With Shea Weber arriving in camp after spending time with Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey tournament, Markov is now getting minutes on the second pairing alongside Jeff Petry. He should also get a healthy dose of power-play minutes, so his overall point production shouldn't take too much of a hit with three-to-four fewer minutes at even strength.

Markov scored a goal in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over the Sabres.

EDGE Analysis

Markov tore up the ice Wednesday night, blocking three shots and netting a goal against the Sabres' Robin Lehner. He also logged 30:55 of ice time, which is by far the most playing time he's had all season. Despite having a minus-3 rating, the 37-year-old seasoned veteran has earned 15 points in the last 20 games, scoring two goals and earning 13 assists. It doesn't look like the Russian's age clock is running out any time soon.

Markov went plus-2 with two helpers in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win against the Stars.

EDGE Analysis

Markov has two multi-assist games in his last three, but you'd have to look back to Dec. 28 to find the blueliner's last plus-2 outing. The veteran still sits at minus-3 on the year, but with 14 points in his last 15 contests, the 37-year-old isn't looking his age as of late. Markov is there if you need him.
