With three goals and just as many helpers, Steen is second only to Brayden Schenn for total points among the St. Louis skaters through the first six games of the regular season. David Perron, Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan O'Reilly share that total as well, but Steen has the best rating among them at minus-2. While it's clear from the Blues' last-place position in the Central Division standings that there's plenty of room for improvement, Steen seems to be doing his share of the work early on.

Steen (upper body) is in the projected lineup for Thursday's season opener against the Jets.

Steen didn't participate in the Blues' final preseason game Sunday against Washington, but he was likely just being rested along with several other veteran skaters. The 34-year-old winger is expected to skate on the third line while at even strength against Winnipeg, and should also see time on the man advantage as a member of St. Louis' second power-play unit.

The Blues aren't suiting up any of their veterans anyway, so it's not clear if this is injury-related. Even though coach Mike Yeo hasn't cleared Steen's injury yet, it's considered likely he suits up for the season opener Thursday against the Jets.

Coach Mike Yeo didn't rule out Steen from Friday's matchup with Dallas; however, it would seem the more cautious approach to hold the winger out if he isn't 100 percent. Regardless of whether he plays another preseason contest, there are no indications the Winnipeg native won't be ready for Opening Night against the Jets on Oct. 4.

The 34-year-old had 14 of those points on the power play, where he held a substantial role. However, this was the first time -- not including the lockout season -- since the 2011-12 campaign that Steen racked up less than 50 points.

This was Steen's first goal in 13 games, so he is probably breathing a sigh of relief. He hasn't exactly been contributing in other ways either, as he had only three assists in his 12 contests prior to this one. The Blues are fighting for a playoff spot, so they really need the 34-year-old to pick up the pace.

The veteran had missed the scoresheet in four consecutive games leading into Tuesday, so this was a welcomed multi-point showing. Steen is now up to a respectable 13 goals and 26 assists through 58 games, which positions him to take a legitimate run at his fifth consecutive 50-point campaign. His role should also increase after Paul Stastny was dealt to Winnipeg on Monday.

The 33-year-old veteran has racked up six points in the past five games, and he now has nine goals and eight assists in his last 17 appearances.

The veteran center has really turned it up since New Year's. In the last 16 games, he has eight goals and 15 points with a plus-3 rating. Before the calendar switched to 2018, Steen had four goals and 20 points with a minus-7 rating in 35 contests. He isn't a 30-goal scorer anymore, but owners should certainly enjoy the hot streak.

However, Steen now has seven goals and 11 points in 11 games during January, while firing 25 shots on goal in that span. The veteran winger continues to man the top power play, and now that Jaden Schwartz is back from an ankle injury, Steen's value should remain high.
