Tye caught three of three targets for 16 yards in Sunday's win over Dallas.
EDGE Analysis
Tye might be listed as No. 2 on the depth chart, but he ended up seeing more targets and catching more passes than starter Larry Donnell - though Donnell nabbed a touchdown. Tye filled in admirably for Donnell after he went down in 2015 - even exceeding his production. Tye topped 40 yards receiving five times in the eight games Donnell missed - a sum Donnell didn't reach in any game. Though he's the backup, there's a good chance he'll end up with the most catches and yardage of the two.

Tye's teammate Larry Donnell sits atop the Giants depth chart.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear how the targets will be distributed between the two, but both are adequate receivers and poor blockers. For now, assume Donnell is likely to get the bigger share, but that could change during the year.

Tye caught two passes for 14 yards on three targets in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills.
EDGE Analysis
While it's hard to make much of a game in which the Giants completed just eight passes, Tye did have more of an impact than Larry Donnell, who didn't even get a target. In fact, Tye was the only Giants player to catch multiple passes, with both of those coming on the opening drive. Tye seems to have an early advantage in the battle for a starting job, but it's worth noting that both players technically started Saturday's game, with the Giants opening in a two-TE formation, according to NJ.com's Dan Duggan.

Tye is competing with Larry Donnell, and to a lesser extent Matt LaCosse, for the team's starting tight end job.
EDGE Analysis
After Donnell got hurt last year, Tye filled in passably with a 42-464-3 line and is now in the mix for the starting job. He's only 6-2, while Donnell is 6-6, but Tye was more consistent last year, and he's probably the better blocker of the two. We'd give Tye a slight edge, but this battle might not be resolved until the end of the preseason.

The Giants and Tye agreed to a contract Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The Giants' tight-end group endured the loss of Daniel Fells (foot) due to a staph infection and Larry Donnell with a still undisclosed neck issue, paving the way for Tye to make his mark in the passing attack. After making his NFL debut in Week 4, Tye proceeded to corral multiple passes in each of the season's final 12 games, racking up 42 receptions (on 62 targets) for 464 yards and three touchdowns. While Fells' career is almost certainly over, Donnell should serve as the No. 1 option in 2016, which could relegate Tye to a negligible role.

Tye finished the season with 42 catches for 464 yards and three scores in 13 games.
EDGE Analysis
Tye didn't play a single snap for the season's first three weeks and didn't see regular work until Week 10. From that point on, he had at least 50 receiving yards or a touchdown in six of the last seven games. And all three of his scores game in the final four weeks. Heading into 2016, there's a good chance Tye supplants the injured Larry Donnell as the team's starting tight end.

Tye had three catches for 28 yards on four targets in Sunday's 49-17 loss to the Vikings.
EDGE Analysis
Tye was a prime candidate to get some extra looks in the absence of Odell Beckham (suspension), but no Giant ended up with more than three catches or five targets. Even with Beckham back in the mix, Tye should have more opportunities in Week 17 against the Eagles.
