Williams (shoulder) agreed Wednesday with the Lions on a one-year contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Signed by the Raiders to a four-year, $44 million contract two years ago, Williams put up a 42-651-6 stat line in 2019 before missing the entire 2020 campaign with a labrum injury. Las Vegas then released him in late February, making the 29-year-old wideout immediately eligible to sign with a new team. Williams took about a week to find his home, joining the new-look Lions with Jared Goff at quarterback, Dan Campbell as head coach and both Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones scheduled for free agency this spring. Williams' deal reportedly is worth up to $6.2 million, but his cap hit could be much lower if a large portion of the contract is just incentives. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network said Feb. 11 that Williams was expected to be fully healthy within two or three weeks, so he should be ready to go for OTAs.

The Raiders released Williams (shoulder) on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Reports of Williams' pending release initially surfaced back in January, so it doesn't come as any sort of surprise that the Raiders have now made the transaction official. Williams, who missed all of 2020 due to a labrum injury, was just two seasons into the four-year, $44 million deal he inked with the Raiders back in 2019. Per Tashan Reed of The Athletic, his release will save Las Vegas $11.6 million in cap space for 2021, and $23.1 million over the next two years. Now 29 years old, Williams -- when healthy -- stands to draw interest on the free-agent market from teams in need of veteran depth, but it's hard to picture him landing another starting gig.

The Raiders are expected to release Williams (shoulder) at the start of the new league year in March, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Williams missed the entire 2020 season due to a shoulder injury, for which he underwent surgery back in September, but Pelissero reports he's now just two to three weeks away from full health. The soon-to-be 29-year-old was fairly effective for the Raiders back in 2019, when he logged a 42-651-6 stat line in 14 contests despite battling plantar fasciitis, so he could be an intriguing free-agent option for teams in need of veteran help at wideout. Cutting Williams would free up roughly $11.6 million in salary cap for the Raiders in 2021.

Williams (shoulder) would need to agree to a reduced salary to have any shot of staying with the Raiders, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Signed to a four-year, $44 million contract during the 2019 offseason, Williams battled through plantar fasciitis in his first year with the Raiders before missing the entire second season with a shoulder injury. He should recover from September labrum surgery in time for the offseason program, but he's facing an uncertain future with no guaranteed money remaining on his contract. Williams turns 29 in February, and he won't be handed a starting job in 2021, regardless of where he ends up playing.

Williams, who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, will undergo surgery on the torn labrum in his right shoulder at some point in September, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Williams initially expected to play through the injury, but instead surgery has been ordered up, which will cause him to miss the entirety of his sixth NFL season. In his stead, the Raiders are expected to go with an inexperienced receiving corps composed of two rookies (Henry Ruggs, Bryan Edwards) and a second-year slot specialist (Hunter Renfrow).

The Raiders placed Williams (shoulder) on injured reserve Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
A little more than a week removed from suffering a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Williams won't suit up this season after initially planning to play through the injury. With the decision made to shut down the 28-year-old, the Raiders likely will trot out a young receiving corps, led by rookie first-rounder Henry Ruggs and supplemented by slot man Hunter Renfrow and 2020 third-round pick Bryan Edwards.

Williams (shoulder) is expected to play through his torn labrum, Vic Tafur, Jimmy Durkin, Ted Nguyen and Tashan Reed of The Athletic's State of the Nation podcast report.
EDGE Analysis
Williams has played through the exact same injury on two previous occasions, as noted by Tafur during Thursday's episode of State of the Nation: once during his senior season at Western Oregon and then in 2015 with the Chargers. That the 28-year-old has some experience dealing with this exact injury is hopeful, and the Raiders have left the door open for Williams to possibly suit up for the season opener Sept. 13 versus the Panthers. Williams has not been wearing a sling or cast while at practice, though he has been held out from any level of participation.

Williams recently sustained a torn labrum in his shoulder, but the wideout intends to put off surgery and play through the injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Williams plans to take the next few weeks off to treat the injury through rest and rehab, leaving the door open for him to be available for the Raiders' season opener Sept. 13 at Carolina. After he missed only two games in 2019 while battling plantar fasciitis in both of his feet for a large portion of the season, Williams has shown an ability to play through injuries, though this latest shoulder issue could provide more unique complications. The Raiders are counting on Williams to serve as their top big-play threat, but if the injury limits the veteran or causes him to miss time, rookie first-round pick Henry Ruggs could end up seeing more work at outside receiver sooner than Las Vegas planned.

Williams said he's "over the hump" in dealing with the plantar fasciitis that bothered him last season, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Williams was hampered by both of his feet, missing two games in October and ultimately failing to maintain his strong start to the season. He finished with a 42-651-6 receiving line on 64 targets, with both his stat line and snap count (727) looking oddly similar to what he had done the previous two years with the Chargers. The 28-year-old is entering the second season of a four-year, $44 million contract, and while better health might theoretically lead to more targets, he's now facing tougher competition after the Raiders picked up Henry Ruggs (Round 1) and Bryan Edwards (Round 3) in the 2020 NFL Draft. The team also brings back slot specialist Hunter Renfrow and tight end Darren Waller, along with an impressive, versatile backfield led by Josh Jacobs.

Williams dealt with plantar fasciitis in both feet last season, but he's believed to be healthy now, ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez reports.
EDGE Analysis
Williams technically missed only two games in the first season of a four-year, $44 million contract, but he didn't make much noise after Week 8. He scored five of his six touchdowns in his first five games, while his final nine appearances yielded only 344 yards and one score. In terms of per-target efficiency, he built on his excellent track record from his time with the Chargers, with his 10.2 YPT placing seventh among qualified pass catchers. Williams made a strong case to see more work if he can stay healthy, but the Raiders may have other ideas after using a first-round pick on Henry Ruggs and a third-round pick on Bryan Edwards. There's also a lot of touch competition coming from other positions, namely Josh Jacobs, Jalen Richard and Lynn Bowden in the backfield and Darren Waller and Jason Witten at tight end.
