Eifert had a healthy day off from practice Wednesday, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Eifert's absence from on-field drills was described as a "vet day." Expect that to occur frequently this year as the Bengals try to keep him healthy throughout the season.

Eifert had five catches on six targets Sunday against the Seahawks, albeit for only 27 yards.
EDGE Analysis
Eifert was less involved than teammate C.J. Uzomah, who had 54 offensive snaps to only 38 for Eifert. The two tight ends combined for nine catches, however, so there's some room for both to produce, at least until A.J. Green returns.

Eifert got the start in Thursday's preseason loss to the Giants, finishing without a target on seven snaps.
EDGE Analysis
Eifert opened the game in a two-TE formation alongside C.J. Uzomah, who caught both of his targets for 54 yards and a touchdown while also logging just seven snaps. Uzomah's durability and decent blocking should keep him on the field more often than not, but there's room for Eifert to draw regular targets even if his snap counts are inconsistent. Given all their injury issues at wide receiver, the Bengals would be smart to make the multi-TE formations a regular theme in September.

Eifert played one snap, drawing a target in the end zone, during last Thursday's preseason win over Washington.
EDGE Analysis
Eifert entered the game as soon as Cincinnati reached the red zone and promptly was overthrown by Andy Dalton. The brief appearance may not seem like much, but it was a nice milestone for an injury-prone player coming back from a severe ankle fracture. Even if C.J. Uzomah technically serves as the starter, Eifert should have a major role on passing downs and in the red zone. Another appearance may be coming in Thursday's preseason game against the Giants.

Eifert isn't sure if he'll play during the preseason, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports. "They just tell me the day before maybe," Eifert said. "I go into practice preparing to play and let them figure that stuff out."
EDGE Analysis
Eifert's injury history ensures the Bengals will take a cautious approach, but they could still make an argument for giving him some snaps in an exhibition to help knock off the rust. He's been cleared for all activities at training camp, albeit with a plan to manage his workload and decrease the likelihood of additional medical issues. He played just two games in 2017 before suffering a season-ending ankle injury Week 4 last year.

Eifert (ankle) won't play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Chiefs, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given Eifert's injury history it's no surprise that the Bengals are inclined to limit his preseason work. The team's primary goal when it comes to the talented, but frequently sidelined tight end, is preparing him to be healthy and available for Week 1 action.

Eifert (ankle) is moving along well in practice, even though the Bengals are taking it slowly with him, John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Eifert is doing some of the live in-pads actions of training camp, but the Bengals are making sure he isn't pushing himself too much. "No. 1, it's, 'Let's make sure Tyler is ready to play against Seattle,'" Bengal coach Zac Taylor said. "We know what he can do on tape. The live reps he's gotten so far just running are really good for me to see. This dude can play some ball."

Eifert (ankle) participated in team drills during Saturday's practice, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Eifert missed June minicamp while progressing in his recovery from a broken right ankle that limited him to four games in 2018, and now appears to have returned to health. The 28-year-old has yet to play a full 16-game season in his NFL career, and has not surpassed 10 appearances in a season since 2015. Now signed to a one-year, incentive-rich contract, Eifert will work to stay healthy and reestablish himself as a red-zone threat. With A.J. Green (lower leg) having exited Saturday's practice with an injury of uncertain severity, the Bengals could potentially need to rely on Eifert as a primary target in the passing game.

Eifert (ankle) didn't practice at June minicamp, Richard Skinner of WKRC reports.
EDGE Analysis
Eifert mostly was able to participate in the early part of the offseason program, but the Bengals seem intent on a cautious approach working him back into full-team practices. He's working on an incentive-laden, one-year contract for a second straight season, hoping to reestablish himself as the team's top pass catcher at tight end. C.J. Uzomah and rookie second-round pick Drew Sample also are in the mix for snaps, but the pair figures to handle more of the blocking. It's unclear if Eifert will have medical clearance for the start of training camp in late July.

Eifert (ankle) has been close to a full participant during the offseason program, Fletcher Page of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "I'm doing pretty much everything," said Eifert. "There's a couple things here and there but for the most part it's all doing everything with the guys."
EDGE Analysis
Working his way back from October surgery, Eifert signed a one-year, incentive-laden contract in March. He seems to ahead of where he was at the same point last offseason when he was rehabbing from the third back surgery of his career. It helps that the latest injury is to a different part of his body, but the Bengals will remain cautiously optimistic given that Eifert has missed 53 in six NFL seasons. The team re-signed C.J. Uzomah to a three-year, $18.3 million contract, then drafted Drew Sample in the second round. New coach Zac Taylor and offensive coordinator Brian Callahan presumably have plans to use all three tight ends.
