After a really nice game before the bye, and then two games in a row with four targets, this game was a bitter disappointment. The news that Andy Dalton is taking back over at quarterback does give some cause for hope for Eifert this week against the Jets.

Eifert tallied three receptions on four targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Raiders.

This was Eifert's 10th game of the season, as he reached the mark for the first time since the 2015 season. Eifert's been unfortunate in the injury arena over the past few years, but now that he's healthy, it's clear the 29-year-old isn't the tight end he used to be. Eifert finished behind C.J. Uzomah in snaps for the second straight week, recording 23 to Uzomah's 38, and he's averaging 2.8 receptions for 23 yards per game this year.

Eifert caught two of four targets for 20 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 49-13 loss to Baltimore.

EDGE Analysis

With the Bengals down by multiple scores just before halftime, rookie Ryan Finley floated a six-yard pass near the front pylon and into the arms of Eifert for the rookie's first career touchdown. The score was Eifert's first since Week 2 in a season that has gotten away from the Bengals under first-year head coach Zac Taylor. With the top overall pick of the 2020 draft within sight, the Bengals figure to roll with Finley down the stretch and a big, reliable tight end like Eifert figures to be the kind of security blanket on which the rookie can rely. Next up is a resurgent Raiders team that has struggled in pass defense this season.

There was a lot of speculation about Eifert being available and in demand, perhaps by the Patriots, but nothing came to fruition. He's coming off his most active game of the year, a six-catch, 74-yard effort against the Rams.

Eifert continues to work as the Bengals' top tight end (34 snaps), but he hasn't found any real level of production in 2019. The 29-year-old has only 17 catches for 118 yards and one touchdown through seven games.

The Bengals converted third-down plays for first downs on those receptions, but Eifert otherwise wasn't targeted by Andy Dalton on the afternoon. Eifert actually received a season-high offensive snap share (52 percent) but has yet to put up more than 30 receiving yards in any of the Bengals' six games. He'll seek to turn around that trend Sunday against a Jaguars defense that has allowed the seventh-most yards per catch (13.1) to tight ends this season.

Eifert caught two of four targets for 14 yards during Sunday's 26-23 loss to Arizona.

The conditions could not have been more ideal for the former Pro Bowler Eifert to have a breakout Week 5, going up against a Cardinals defense that entered the day allowing 66 more receiving yards and three more touchdowns to opposing tight ends than any other team in the league. He garnered one end-zone target Sunday but was unable to haul in the pass, and has yet to exceed 27 receiving yards in any game this year after breaking 35 yards in three of his four appearances during 2018. It appears Eifert may be a touchdown-dependent fantasy asset at this point in his career, and in Week 6 he and the Bengals will be facing a Ravens defense that has conceded just one tight end touchdown this season.

Eifert's night got off to a rough start, as he dropped a would-be, 10-yard touchdown on Cincinnati's second offensive series. From there, he helped the Bengals pick up a couple first downs, matching his previous season high of 27 yards overall. That mark evidences just how limited Eifert's production has been through four games, but he at least has a favorable matchup against the Cardinals in Week 5.

Eifert had one catch for 18 yards on his only target of the game in Sunday's loss to the Bills.

EDGE Analysis

This wasn't a great matchup for the Bengals tight ends, but next Monday night should be more fruitful against the Steelers, who struggled to defend Will Dissly in Week 2 against the Seahawks.

Eifert had three catches for nine yards in Sunday's loss to the Niners, but caught one of those for a touchdown.

Eifert looked painfully slow in the open field, but he still remains a good red-zone target thanks to his precise route running. But he seems less capable of producing the big plays that he had before his litany of injuries with the Bengals.
