Smith (back spasms) returned to practice Friday, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though unable to practice both Wednesday and Thursday, Smith seemingly still has a shot to suit up for Friday's game against the Bengals. He has just one game with more than three receptions this season, and he hasn't seen more than three targets since Week 9. His status for Sunday's game should be available soon.

Smith won't practice Wednesday due to back spasms, Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was a delayed addition to the injury report last week, popping up Thursday with back and toe issues. His absence that day was a precautionary measure to manage the aforementioned injuries, but he only mustered one catch (on two targets) for 17 yards Sunday at Cleveland. Kicking off this week with a DNP likely isn't cause for concern, though owners should keep an eye on his status as the week continues.

Smith (back/toe) suited up but finished with just one catch for 17 yards in Sunday's loss to the Browns.
EDGE Analysis
Games like this shouldn't come as surprise for the boom-or-bust wideout, so hopefully Smith's minor injuries steered fantasy owners away from starting him this week. All three touchdowns and 292 of his 529 yards have all come in 3 games this season, showing why he can only be trusted in the deepest of leagues or as a cheap desperation play in daily formats.

Smith (back/toe) is active for Sunday's game in Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
With Blaine Gabbert directing the offense the past four games, Smith has become a more consistent receiving threat, despite seeing no more than four targets in a given outing. Overall, he's hauled in seven passes for 187 yards and one touchdown in that stretch, which bodes well with an exploitable Browns secondary (15.2 YPC and 15 touchdown grabs conceded) on tap.

Smith (back) is listed a questionable for Sunday's game in Cleveland, Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group reports.
EDGE Analysis
According to Inman, head coach Jim Tomsula said Smith was held out of Thursday's practice as a precautionary measure. The speedy wideout should be fine to play in Sunday's game, but he still hasn't topped five targets since Week 6 against the Ravens.

Smith (back/toe) didn't practice Thursday, John Dickinson of the 95.7 The Game San Francisco reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith avoided the first injury report of the week, yet the sideline was his domain Thursday due to back and toe issues. While the absence may have been precautionary, expect the 49ers to clarify his Week 14 availability as the week approaches. In his first season with the 49ers, he's averaged less than four targets per game, but with a YPT mark of 12.0, using the fifth-year wideout can reap dividends with one reception, as he did Sunday with the game-winning 71-yard grab at Chicago.

Smith caught two of three targets for 76 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Bears.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old was a virtual practice cone during regulation, with just one reception for five yards, but he certainly got his money's worth on a 71-yard TD reception in overtime to win the game. Smith hasn't caught more than two passes in any of Blaine Gabbert's four starts, but he continues to serve as the 49ers' top deep option, making big plays such as this a possibility in any given week. Smith remains reliant on big plays for fantasy production given his modest usage rate, and this will remain the case in next week's matchup against the Browns.

Smith caught two of three targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 19-13 loss to Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
Other than a 41-yard catch at one point, Smith was once again a non-factor. Blaine Gabbert has been surprisingly competent the last few weeks, however, so it's possible that Smith might emerge down the stretch. With that said, it's hard to trust Smith, given his lack of production thus far. If you need him next week, he'll face the Bears, who have played well defensively as of late.

Smith only had one reception (three targets) for 16 yards in Sunday's loss to Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
Another week, another disappointing output from Smith. He is the definition of a home run hitter, but that had value with the strong-armed Kaepernick (shoulder) at the helm. With Blaine Gabbert under center, the 49ers run a more conservative offense, which eliminates almost all of Smith's value as a deep threat. With the Cardinals' strong secondary coming to town next week, Smith should not be relied upon outside of very deep leagues.

Smith pulled in two of the four balls thrown his way for 44 yards in Sunday's win over Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Despite the absence of Anquan Boldin (hamstring) and a quarterback change, Smith failed to put up big numbers for the third consecutive week. He continues to be an all-or-nothing WR3 with no semblance of consistency. A positive that can be taken away from this game is that newly-appointed starter, Blaine Gabbert, was a huge improvement over Colin Kaepernick in his ability to accurately deliver the ball to his wideouts. Gabbert lacks the arm strength to throw the deep ball to Smith consistently, but his accuracy could result in more catches for Smith going forward.
