Smith caught two passes off of five targets for 19 yards in Sunday's loss to St. Louis.
EDGE Analysis
Smith came to the 49ers with the thought that he'd be able to add a vertical dimension to the offense. In theory he has, but in practice he has seen too few passes to reshape the 49ers' offense in any meaningful way. Four of his 16 receptions this season have gone for more than 20 yards, including two touchdowns of 75 yards or more. Smith has the ability to put up huge fantasy numbers in just one or two plays. The problem with his current role in San Francisco is that he's seen three or fewer targets in four of eight games, meaning that he often has had to hit on almost every opportunity to make a splash on the field and in fantasy lineups - something he has been unable to do.

Smith failed to haul in his only target in Thursday's 20-3 loss to the Seahawks.
EDGE Analysis
Shadowed by Richard Sherman for much of the night, Smith didn't even see a target until the final five minutes of the game. His lone target was fittingly ugly, as Colin Kaepernick threw the ball way too hard on a short crossing route and Smith finished things off with a drop. Smith may have a decent weekly ceiling due to his track record of catching long passes, but both he and the San Francisco offense as a whole have been helpless against decent defenses. Things could get ugly Week 8 in St. Louis.

Smith caught just 3-of-6 targets Sunday, but hauled in a 76-yard touchdown in the 25-20 win over the Ravens. He finished with 96 receiving yards.
EDGE Analysis
Smith's long touchdown came on a pretty deep pass from Colin Kaepernick, although Smith used his speed after the catch. He was quiet otherwise, but fantasy owners probably aren't complaining, as Smith has been MIA for most of the season. The 49ers' offense has looked more functional the last two weeks, however, so perhaps there is hope for the speedy wideout. He'll have a stiff test next week though, playing the Seahawks on Thursday.

Smith hauled in his only two targets for 42 yards in Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Colin Kaepernick finally got things going through the air, but the extra yards and targets went almost exclusively to Anquan Boldin. Smith continues to prove that he is a true boom-or-bust receiving option with a 20.6 YPC, but only turning in one big fantasy day through five weeks. He gets a nice matchup against his former team next week, but it is hard to call Smith anything more than an upside WR3 given his inconsistent production.

Smith caught 2-of-5 targets for 54 yards in Sunday's 17-3 loss to the Packers.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was quiet for most of the game, before making a 47-yard catch late in the fourth quarter, and had a shot a touchdown later on, but could not come down with the pass in the end zone. He appeared to be frustrated at one point early in the game, when Colin Kaepernick badly overthrew him. Kaepernick had another rough game, so Smith was actually the team's leader in receiving yardage Sunday. The veteran wideout will try to get things going in Week 5 against the Giants.

Smith (knee) was targeted twice, but did not record a catch in Sunday's blowout loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Despite falling behind early, the 49ers did not elect to air it out like they did against the Steelers in their 43-18 loss. Kaepernick had his worst game as a pro, and it left the 49ers with absolutely no positive fantasy performances. The silver lining for Smith is that he got through the game without aggravating his minor knee injury. If the 49ers want to keep up with Green Bay's high octane offense next week, they will have to air the ball out, which could bode well for Smith. He continues to be a boom-or-bust option.

Smith surfaced from Sunday's loss to the Cardinals with a minor knee injury, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was held without a catch in Sunday's blowout loss, continuing what has been an up-and-down opening three games for him with the 49ers. Although his knee ailment is considered minor, Smith's involvement in practice this week should be worthwhile to track.

Smith (knee) is active for Sunday's contest in Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
Generally a hit-or-miss option, Smith could find room to operate versus a Cardinals defense that has surrendered 13.2 YPC and two touchdowns to wide receivers this season.

Smith had a much better game Sunday against the Steelers, catching 6-of-7 targets for 120 yards and a touchdown to go along with a two-point conversion.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was almost invisible in his 49ers debut against the Vikings, but he made his presence known by hauling in a 75-yard touchdown catch and the ensuing two-point conversion in the fourth quarter of this contest. The majority of Smith's production came in the second half with the game well out of reach, but it's still encouraging to see Smith and quarterback Colin Kaepernick link up consistently after the two got nothing going last week.

Smith was targeted three times, but ended the night with just one catch for 11 yards in Monday's win over the Vikings.
EDGE Analysis
The 49ers' passing game was quiet all night, as they were content letting Carlos Hyde run all over Minnesota's defense. This could be a common trend going forward, which would limit Smith's big play ability. Owners should look to slot Smith in when San Francisco takes on a team that could go up big on them. That being said, Smith and the 49ers travel to Pittsburgh next week, and their high-octane offense combined with their weak secondary could result in a strong showing from Smith.
