Smith (back) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After aggravating a back injury Sunday against the Saints, Smith was capped at 45 of the 49ers' 60 offensive snaps and just two receptions for 18 yards. He'll likely be treated with kid gloves in order to avoid any further setback, leaving his status entirely up in the air for this Sunday's divisional matchup at Arizona.

Smith (back) is not present for Tuesday's practice, ESPN's Nick Wagoner reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith dealt with a back injury earlier in the season and aggravated it during Sunday's loss to the Saints. Head coach Chip Kelly admitted the injury impacted Smith's performance -- perhaps hinting that an upcoming absence could be in the cards. The Niners have a difficult Week 10 road road matchup in Arizona.

Smith caught two of the three passes thrown his way for 18 yards in Sunday's 41-23 loss to New Orleans.
EDGE Analysis
On a day where the 49ers gained 398 yards through the air, the 49ers' top wideout failed to top the 20-yard mark. This is just another example of the veteran wideout failing to produce in an extremely soft matchup. It is also a reminder that Smith is nothing more than a "boom or bust" desperation play who doesn't deserve weekly consideration.

Smith caught just one of two targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 34-17 loss to Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
A week after catching a long touchdown pass from Colin Kaepernick, Smith was back to being an afterthought. Despite the low yardage total, Smith actually led all wideouts in receiving yardage Sunday, illustrating the state of the 49ers' passing game. San Francisco will be on bye next week, before a fantasy-friendly matchup with the Saints in Week 9.

Smith (back) is active for Sunday's Week 7 tilt versus the Bucs.
EDGE Analysis
The speedster will thus be able to suit up for another opportunity to build rapport with Colin Kaepernick, who has the caliber of arm that can help accentuate Smith's considerable downfield skills. Smith was able to log limited practices Thursday and Friday, so his health appears solid entering the contest against what has been a vulnerable Bucs secondary to date this season.

Smith (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
A mid-week addition to Thursday's injury report, Smith still managed to log limited practices both Thursday and Friday. His participation in any capacity suggests he should be able to play, but if not, Rod Streater and/or Aaron Burbridge would join Quinton Patton and Jeremy Kerley in three-wide sets. Even in a favorable matchup, the San Francisco passing game offers little cause for excitement.

Smith (back) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group reports.
EDGE Analysis
Landing on the injury report mid-week could mean Smith suffered the injury in practice, but that's merely speculative. In any case, he'll have Friday's session to show a modicum (or more) of health, after which his Week 7 availability will be revealed. If he's able to play Sunday versus the Buccaneers, he'll continue to rebuild his rapport with newly appointed quarterback Colin Kaepernick, with whom Smith connected on a 53-yard touchdown this past Sunday in Buffalo.

Smith hauled in three of seven targets for 76 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Bills.
EDGE Analysis
On a day where very little worked for the 49ers, Smith was one of the few bright spots from a fantasy perspective. The change from Blaine Gabbert to Colin Kaepernick has immediately paid dividends for the veteran wideout, as Sunday's stat line was the most production we have seen from Smith in 2016. The quarterback change doesn't make him an immediate starter in standard formats, but Smith's stock definitely rises with Kaepernick under center after the two connected for some big games in 2015.

Smith could benefit from the change from Blaine Gabbert to Colin Kaepernick this week.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has been a non-factor this season with Gabbert at the helm, only recording 106 yards on nine receptions through five games. The veteran wideout had slightly better success with Kaepernick calling the shots last season, accruing 342 yards and two touchdowns in those eight games. Owners should be wary as Smith had plenty of poor games with Kap (four games with 20 or less yards), but he was definitely targeted more and had a much better yards per catch average (21.4 YPC) than his current career-low mark of 11.8 with Gabbert throwing him the ball. His stock definitely rises with the change, but owners should temper their expectations as Smith will likely remain a boom-or-bust receiver.

Smith failed to catch his only target in Thursday's 33-21 loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
The speedster bottomed out Thursday in what has already been a largely disappointing campaign. Smith's targets have now dropped in three consecutive weeks, and to date, his three-catch, 55-yard, one-touchdown effort in Week 2 represents the high point of his season. As long as Blaine Gabbert and his limited arm remain behind center, Smith's biggest asset, his blazing speed, is likely to remain firmly grounded in the garage.
