Smith hauled in his only target for a 50-yard touchdown in Thursday's preseason game against Miami.
EDGE Analysis
Smith made the most of his first target of the preseason, though the long touchdown mostly appeared to be the product of a mix up in Miami's secondary. His usage this preseason portends his likely regular-season role, with Smith setting up as a low-volume deep threat while Carson Wentz primarily hones in on Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz.

Smith (back spasms) returned to practice Wednesday after a one-day absence, ESPN.com's Tim McManus reports.
EDGE Analysis
This will be worth monitoring if the issue crops up again, as Smith also was bothered by back spasms during the 2015 season, though he didn't miss any time. A shoulder injury and concussion combined to cost him four games last season, marking the first absences of his six-year career. The durable speedster has seen regular work with the first-team offense through the first week of training camp, mostly playing alongside Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) and Jordan Matthews. Jeffery is missing a second straight practice Wednesday.

Smith is dealing with back spasms and won't practice Tuesday, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was bothered by back spasms at one point in 2015, but he doesn't have a particularly notable history of similar injuries. He'll likely return to practice in a matter of days, but his absence does give players like Nelson Agholor and Marcus Johnson a chance to prove they're worthy of mixing in with the first-team offense once the regular season begins. While expected to start alongside Alshon Jeffery (shoulder), the 28-year-old Smith could face serious competition for snaps and targets in a revamped receiving corps.

Smith only has $500,000 in guarantees on his three-year, $15 million contract, NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Eagles signed Smith and Alshon Jeffery in March to bookend slot receiver Jordan Matthews (knee), but subsequent developments -- namely a strong offseason from Nelson Agholor -- suggest the former 49er may now have to compete for a top-three spot on the depth chart. If Agholor outplays Smith during training camp and fourth-round rookie Mack Hollins appears ready to serve as a part-time deep threat, the Eagles might even consider releasing the 28-year-old speedster before he ever plays a regular-season game for them. That being said, Smith still has every opportunity to prove he's worthy of the role he was signed for.

Smith will sign a three-year, $15 million deal with the Eagles on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was most recently in San Francisco, where poor quarterback play limited him to 110 receptions for 930 yards over his two-year stint with the 49ers. He will now join a more promising situation in Philadelphia with Carson Wentz directing the offense. The Eagles lacked a true deep threat in 2016, but got exactly that in Smith. The veteran wideout has recorded a touchdown of at least 50 yards in each of his six NFL seasons, and should open things up down the field for Wentz and a Philadelphia offense that was 24th in the league in passing yards per game last year.

The Ravens are interested in reuniting with Smith, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was released following a pair of disappointing seasons in San Francisco, with his value seemingly at a low point even though he's only 28 years old. This could make him an ideal candidate for a cap-strapped Ravens team that originally selected Smith in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The speedy wideout had 767 or more receiving yards in each of his four seasons in Baltimore, providing big-armed Joe Flacco with a downfield threat. If Smith signs with the Ravens, his presence could make fellow speedster Mike Wallace expendable.

Smith will be released by the 49ers, NFL Network's Steve Smith Sr. reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith's anticipated split from the 49ers is hardly surprising, as he was reported to have been placed on the trading block during this past season. After signing a five-year, $40 million deal with San Francisco back in 2015, Smith has gone on to catch just 53 passes for 930 yards and seven touchdowns in 28 games since. If the 28-year-old is indeed released in the near future, he would figure to receive decent interest on the open market as a veteran wideout who proved plenty productive during his first four seasons, when the quarterback play he received with the Ravens far surpassed anything he got with the 49ers.

Smith (concussion) has been cleared for activity and will be ready to go for the start of offseason workouts, ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith ended the 2016 campaign on injured reserve due to a concussion and finished yet another disappointing season in San Francisco with 20 receptions for 267 yards and three touchdowns across 12 games played. Now free of concussion symptoms, he'll certainly benefit from having a full offseason unhampered by injury concerns, especially with a new head coach in town that will install a new offensive system.

Smith (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Smith ends his season with just 20 catches for 267 yards and three touchdowns. With him out for San Francisco's final two contests, Jeremy Kerley will move to the top of the team's depth chart at wide receiver.
