Todd Heap had two catches for 40 yards in Sunday's win over the Panthers. Heap was targeted three times and showed decent speed while turning a 20-yard gain upfield in the first half. The problem is that he's going to struggle to get open and won't be a big part of the game plan at age 31. We can do better for TE2s.

X-rays on Todd Heap's left thumb confirmed that he only has a sprain. He won't miss practice after jamming the thumb in Thursday's exhibition opener. Heap could flirt with low-end TE1 value in Arizona this season. The Cards have a suspect situation at No. 2 receiver, and Kevin Kolb loves tight ends.

Todd Heap sprained his left thumb in Thursday's preseason opener. Heap had two catches for 23 yards before heading into the locker room for X-rays. The tests came back negative, and he said he could have returned to the game if it was the regular season. Heap may skip some practices, but there's not much real concern here.

Free agent TE Todd Heap is visiting with the Jets on Sunday. Heap was picked up from the airport by HC Rex Ryan, so the Jets apear to be putting on a full-court press. However, they have reportedly yet to make the 10-year veteran an offer. With Dustin Keller already entrenched in New York, it's far from an ideal landing spot for Heap. It wouldn't do Keller's fantasy value any favors, either.

There is reportedly mutual interest between the Cardinals and free agent Todd Heap. Reliable beat writer Kent Somers confirms the report, which is good enough for us. The Cardinals had already determined to use the tight end more this season, and it would be a homecoming for Heap. We wonder if the Cardinals will be willing to offer more than the Ravens, however.

The Ravens remain in contact with free agents Todd Heap and Derrick Mason about the possibility of re-signing. While Heap has more left in the tank than Mason, his league-wide interest is limited by the lack of vacant tight end jobs. Mason would seem to be a nice fit in San Francisco as Michael Crabtree insurance, but we've seen no indication that the Niners have been in contact.

The Cardinals have reportedly decided to "pass" on the idea of pursuing free agent TE Todd Heap. The Cardinals don't want to block rookie Rob Housler, so they went with a blocking specialist rather than signing Heap.

Raiders beat writer Steve Corkran believes Todd Heap could be a fit if Zach Miller ends up signing elsewhere. The Raiders are expected to retain the top tight end on the market, but it's not guaranteed. Heap was high on Oakland's draft list back in 2001, and he has a history with new head coach Hue Jackson.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora confirms the Ravens are "hopeful" of re-signing TE Todd Heap and NT Kelly Gregg along with Derrick Mason. Don't get carried away with the Ed Dickson hype just yet. While Arizona may be tempting for Heap, he knows he has a better shot at contending in Baltimore. Heap was still playing at a high level last season, and he'd be a lock to outproduce Dickson again if re-signed.
