Tarvaris Jackson completed 3-of-5 passes for just 13 yards in the Seahawks' preseason opener Thursday night. He hasn't gotten a lick better, and may have gotten worse. Outplayed by Charlie Whitehurst, Jackson showed no touch on short throws and was wildly inaccurate at the intermediate and deep levels. Skittish in the pocket when pressured, Jackson simply has no feel for the position. As much as we like Zach Miller and Sidney Rice as players, T-Jack will kill their fantasy values.

Jackson's familiarity with Darrell Bevell's offense gives him a built-in edge on Whitehurst, as does his natural talent. Skill aside, though, Jackson has been a next-week flop waiting to happen in the rare instances he's performed admirably as a starter. Bevell will try to get Jackson to play more consistently, but it's doubtful to happen. The Seahawks will vie to pull up the NFC West rear this year.

ESPN's John Clayton reports Tarvaris Jackson's contract with the Seahawks will be for $8 million over two years. In other words, he's getting the same contract Charlie Whitehurst received last season. The two players will stand on equal footing entering training camp. We're giving Jackson the clear edge considering his history with coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Free agent Tarvaris Jackson confirmed that he has interest in playing for the Seahawks under new offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. "We had a pretty good relationship, me and Bev did," said Jackson of his relationship with Bevell, the old Vikings playcaller. "... It seems like a pretty good opportunity. I know the offense. That's a plus. Coach Bevell, he's very familiar with me and I'm very familiar with him. So that's always a plus."

Clayton is most reliable on Seahawks news, but it seems as if he's simply passing along league buzz here. Jackson and Hasselbeck have been connected to the Seahawks and Titans respectively for months now. Jackson knows new Seattle coordinator Darrell Bevel's offense, which leaves fewer complications after a lost offseason.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora calls the Dolphins, Redskins, and Seahawks "strong possibilities" to pursue free agent Tarvaris Jackson. La Canfora foresees a "nice market" for Jackson, despite his inability to keep the starting job in Minnesota. In Jackson's defense, his career stats (24 TDs, 22 INTs, 10-10 record) aren't an embarrassment. His play in prime-time and playoff games, however, has been. He isn't starting material for a contender.
