Robert Mathis (knee) is expected to return for Sunday's game versus the Dolphins. The team's leading sack artist has missed the last three games after spraining his left knee Oct. 7 against Green Bay. While the Colts have held held their last two opponents to 13 points apiece, they've managed just three sacks with Mathis out of the lineup.

Robert Mathis (knee) returned to a limited practice Friday and is listed as "questionable" for Sunday's game against the Titans. Mathis, out since Week 5, is shaping up as a game-time decision. LB Pat Angerer (questionable, foot) and DE Cory Redding (questionable, knee) are tentatively expected to play after returning to full practices. If Mathis can't go, Jerry Hughes will start in his place.

Robert Mathis (sprained left knee) missed practice on Wednesday. Mathis was injured against the Packers in Week 5 and was then given a two-to-three week recovery timetable, but he looks questionable at best for Sunday's game against the Titans. Jerry Hughes has filled in admirably in Mathis' absence with 11 tackles and a sack in the past two weeks.

Robert Mathis (sprained left knee) will be sidelined 2-3 weeks. Mathis sought a second opinion of exiting Sunday's win over the Packers, but apparently received the same word he did from his first doctor. It's a rough news for a Colts team that just got back Dwight Freeney, as Mathis has tallied five sacks in four games. Indy's bye was in Week 4, so Mathis will likely miss at least two games.

Robert Mathis will play strong-side outside linebacker in the Colts' new hybrid defensive scheme. Mathis compared his role to outgoing SAM 'backer Jarret Johnson's. Johnson was more of a two-down, run-stopping edge-setter, though, and Mathis will stay on the field to rush the passer on nickel downs. Mathis could be an attractive target if he maintains defensive line eligibility in IDP leagues. We'd put his over/under on tackles at about 70, and sacks at around eight or nine.

The Indianapolis Star reports that Colts DE Robert Mathis' new contract is worth $36 million over four seasons. The deal includes a $15M signing bonus and $24M over the first two seasons. Because the initial bonus payment can prorate over the contract's life if Mathis is released early on, the Colts are rolling the dice that Mathis has at least three big years left in him. Mathis, 31, tallied 9.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in 16 games last season. He will play more with his hand up in Indianapolis, perhaps in the Terrell Suggs role for Chuck Pagano's hybrid defense.

Colts agreed to terms with DE Robert Mathis on a multi-year contract. The Colts initially tagged Mathis just before Monday's 4ET deadline, then announced the extension later in the day. While Mathis turned 31 years old late last month, he is expected to be a featured pass rusher in Indianapolis' new-look defense. Mathis ranks second in Colts franchise history in sacks (83.5), behind only Dwight Freeney. Freeney's future in the organization is less certain, however, due to a base salary in excess of $14 million.

The Colts and Robert Mathis have agreed to a long term contract, according to Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star. Mathis is one of the best pure pass rushers of his era, but we doubt he'll be worth the money. He's 31 years old and will be asked to adjust to Chuck Pagano's hybrid 3-4 scheme. Mathis and Dwight Freeney will remain a dangerous tandem, but this isn't a move that makes sense on a rebuilding team. We suspect owner Robert Irsay just wanted to retain one big star during a week that Peyton Manning will likely get cut.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Colts will place the franchise tag on free agent LE Robert Mathis if the sides can't reach a long-term contract ahead of Monday's 4PM ET franchise deadline. The Colts have informed Mathis of this specific plan. The club's new coaching staff is high on Mathis' potential fit in their 3-4 based hybrid scheme, and it sounds like he's basically already been eliminated from the free agent market. The Titans, Dolphins, and Falcons had been expected to pursue Mathis.

The Indianapolis Star disputes reports that the Colts have had only "casual, get-acquainted conversations" with free agent DE Robert Mathis, but confirms there has been " little headway."
