NFL.com's Jeff Darlington reports the Dolphins anticipate competing with the Vikings to sign free agent Mike Wallace.
To this point, only the Fins have been floated as a likely destination for Wallace. The Vikings could make things interesting, with a similar need for an outside receiver to take the top off of defenses. Miami remains in the driver's seat. GM Jeff Ireland is intent on adding wideout help after underestimating the markets on Vincent Jackson and Pierre Garcon last year, and the Dolphins are sitting on roughly $36 million of cap space. The Vikings have about $15 million.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed on SportsCenter Wednesday that the Dolphins are viewed as the favorites to land free agent Mike Wallace.
This has been the worst-kept secret of 2013 free agency. "A lot of people around the league believe that the Miami Dolphins are poised to make a major run at a player who many regard as the No. 1 free agent available," said Schefter, adding that the Dolphins are "desperate" for speed to surround Ryan Tannehill. "... A lot of people around the league believe the Dolphins are the team to beat."

The Miami Herald considers Dwayne Bowe's five-year, $56 million ($26 million guaranteed) contract the "starting point" for free agent Mike Wallace.
We don't disagree. Bowe may have gotten more had he reached the open market, and his return to Kansas City thins the receiver market. Wallace is also two years younger. The Dolphins have been the most consistently connected to Wallace, but he should have multiple serious suitors. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, there's no chance Wallace will be back with the Steelers.

ESPN Cleveland is skeptical the Browns will pursue a high-end receiver like Mike Wallace in free agency.
The Browns have been viewed as one of Wallace's most likely suitors - reportedly even in the Steelers' front office - but reporter Tony Grossi believes their interest in free agent Steve Breaston is an indication they'll be looking for more of a Tier 2 talent. The Browns have cap space to burn, so if they don't go after Wallace, it won't be because of money issues.

Coach Ron Rivera hinted that the Panthers could be interested in free agent Mike Wallace.
When asked if Wallace was a target, Rivera said, "You're warm." Although the Panthers don't have the cap space to make a real run at Wallace, it's a sign that they aren't completely sold on Brandon LaFell as Steve Smith's running mate. Perhaps they'll add talent to the position via the draft.

The Miami Herald agrees that Mike Wallace will be the Dolphins' "priority" in free agency.
Beat writer Armando Salguero has been reporting as such for weeks. Salguero expects the Dolphins to "touch base" with the reps for both Wallace and Greg Jennings at the Combine, but believes Jennings is only a fallback option. GM Jeff Ireland has rarely pursued big-ticket free agents - and has struck out when he has - but the evidence he's planning a run at Wallace is bordering on overwhelming at this point.

NFL teams are reportedly concerned that free agent Mike Wallace will be "asking for the moon" in contract negotiations.
A Wednesday morning report suggested Wallace will ask for $12 million annually, more than Vincent Jackson. "I like Mike Wallace," one receiver-needy NFL GM told SI's Peter King. "But I'm not paying him Vincent Jackson money. Not even close." The Buccaneers signed V-Jax last offseason for $11 million per year.

"Multiple sources" tell the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that Mike Wallace is the Dolphins' "top target" in free agency.
The Sun-Sentinel rarely breaks legitimate Dolphins news, but there has been enough previous smoke behind GM Jeff Ireland's intended Wallace pursuit that this story is believable. The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero wrote less than a week ago that he expects Wallace to be the Dolphins' No. 1 free-agent target. The Sun-Sentinel suggests Wallace will command roughly $60 million over five years. The Dolphins certainly have enough cap space to afford it.

The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reiterated that he expects Mike Wallace to be the Dolphins' No. 1 target in free agency.
Wallace and Greg Jennings are the receivers linked to Miami the most, but it seems they prefer to re-sign free agent Brian Hartline and have Wallace play opposite him as the field-stretching deep threat. If a deal can't be worked out with Hartline, we could easily see the Dolphins go after both Wallace and Jennings to line up with Davone Bess in three-wide sets. Wallace is said to be seeking $10-11 million annually, while Jennings could come in around $8-9 million per year.

The Houston Chronicle doesn't expect the Texans to pursue free agent Mike Wallace or Percy Harvin.
