Raiders FS Michael Huff (groin) did not start and was limited in yesterday's loss to the Bills. Huff's limitations really hurt Oakland. Matt Giordano started and was repeatedly burned in both run support and coverage as the Bills rang up 38 points.

The Raiders will use Michael Huff as a slot cornerback in nickel packages this season. They're trying to put that $32 million head-scratcher of a contract to full use. Huff played cornerback in college, so he's at least got experience playing one-on-one coverage. NFL teams typically like their slot corners to be physical, however, and physical Huff isn't. In Monday night's game, he figures to match up frequently with Broncos slot receiver Eddie Royal.

Raiders re-signed FS Michael Huff. The Cowboys strike out on one of their rumored targets. Huff is coming off a career year, racking up 95 tackles, a career-high four sacks, four QB hurries, three INTs, three forced fumbles, and seven passes defensed while showing well in coverage. We'll see if that highly motivated production will continue now that he's landed his long-term deal.

According to Fox Sports Southwest, there's at least one Cowboys scout who "always argues against former University of Texas players." That scout's voice may have increased in volume and intensity after the ill-advised Roy Williams trade. Beat writer Matt Mosley believes free agent S Michael Huff remains a strong possibility in Dallas despite the anti-Longhorn scout. "This move just makes too much sense not to do it," reasons Mosley.

Jerry McDonald of Bay Area News Group doubts the Raiders will match high-dollar offers for free agent S Michael Huff. McDonald believes Huff's fate was sealed in man coverage on a 48-yard touchdown pass to Jags WR Jason Hill in December. The Raiders have depth with Mike Mitchell, Tyvon Branch, and Hiram Eugene as the top three safeties. McDonald also questions whether the Cowboys would seriously pursue Huff considering Warren Sapp's criticism of the safety's effort under coordinator Rob Ryan's watch in Oakland.

Former Raiders DT Warren Sapp would advise teams not to sign S Michael Huff because the free agent's effort "leaves something to be desired." "I'd really be interested to see his tape and watch his last couple of years," said Sapp, "because his first two make you want to throw up watching him practice." Annoyed at Huff's nonchalant practice habits and lack of commitment, Sapp tried to take Huff aside several times in Oakland. To Huff's credit, he's shown tremendous improvement since Sapp retired. A cynic would point out that it has coincided with a contract push.
