Carter (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
According to Cimini, head coach Robert Saleh is optimistic that Carter will be able to play through a low-ankle sprain in Sunday's game against the Vikings, but for now, the running back is considered day-to-day, per Eric Allen of the Jets' official site. If Carter ends up being sidelined this weekend or is available only in a limited capacity, Zonovan Knight and Ty Johnson would be in line for added opportunities out of the backfield. Trade-deadline pickup James Robinson, who was a healthy inactive in the Jets' Week 12 win over the Bears, could also re-enter the backfield mix.

Coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Carter has a low-ankle sprain and is considered day-to-day, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
EDGE Analysis
Saleh added that he'll have more information Wednesday, when the team begins Week 13 prep, but as of Monday, it appears Carter will have a chance to play Sunday against the Vikings. This appears to be the best-case scenario for the running back, as Saleh specifically noted Carter didn't suffer a high-ankle sprain, per Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record. With Breece Hall (knee) on IR, Carter appears to be the team's No. 1 back ahead of Ty Johnson, Zonovan Knight and mid-season acquisition James Robinson, the latter of whom was a healthy scratch for Week 12.

Coach Robert Saleh said Carter likely suffered a sprained ankle during Sunday's 31-10 win against the Bears, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
At the time of his departure in the second half, Carter had six carries for 21 yards and hauled in both of his targets for 15 yards. Saleh noted the Jets will have more information regarding Carter's injury Monday, so testing seemingly is in store to learn its extent. With Breece Hall (knee) on injured reserve and James Robinson a healthy scratch Sunday, Ty Johnson and Zonovan Knight were New York's healthy and available running backs by the end of Sunday's contest.

Carter was forced out of Sunday's game against the Bears with an ankle injury.
EDGE Analysis
Prior to his exit from the contest, Carter had carried six times for 21 yards and caught two passes for 15 yards. In his absence, added backfield touches are available for Zonovan Knight and Ty Johnson.

Carter rushed eight times for 19 yards and caught one of two targets for minus-2 yards in Sunday's 10-3 loss to New England.
EDGE Analysis
Carter ran for only seven yards on four carries in the first half, but James Robinson mustered just three yards on three rushing attempts as New York's running game was bottled up. Things didn't get much better for either running back after halftime, as New York mustered only 59 rushing yards collectively, and a team-high 26 of those came from quarterback Zach Wilson. The entire Jets offense laid an egg in this one to drop to 6-4, but a bounce-back opportunity awaits in Week 12 at home against the 3-8 Bears.

Carter rushed 12 times for 76 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Bills. He also caught his only target for 10 yards.
EDGE Analysis
Carter was out-touched 15-13 by James Robinson, who came into the game nursing a knee injury. Both running backs got into the end zone, and Carter finished with 86 scrimmage yards to Robinson's 53. Carter cut Buffalo's lead to 14-10 in the final minute of the first half with a six-yard rushing touchdown, then Robinson put New York ahead with a seven-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter. Given the Jets' commitment to running the ball despite losing Breece Hall (knee) for the season, both Carter and Robinson should continue to garner double-digit touches after the team's Week 10 bye.

Carter rushed seven times for 26 yards and caught four of seven targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Patriots.
EDGE Analysis
Carter got seven rushing attempts to five for new teammate James Robinson, but the absence of Breece Hall's (knee) big play ability in the backfield forced the Jets to go more pass-heavy. That approach led to more chunk plays through the air and a handful of opportunities for Carter as a pass catcher, but Zach Wilson threw three costly interceptions. Carter's ability to contribute as both a rusher and receiver should keep his touch floor high in Week 9 against the Bills and beyond, regardless of game script.

The Jets have agreed to a trade for Jacksonville running back James Robinson (knee), per Connor Hughes of SNY.tv, which likely will push Carter back to a change-of-pace role.
EDGE Analysis
Carter may see similar usage to what he has been getting all season, while Robinson is a decent bet to step into the featured role previously occupied by Breece Hall, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Sunday's win over the Broncos. Robinson currently is battling some knee soreness, but the Jets presumably did their due diligence and determined him to be relatively healthy before agreeing to trade for the former 1,000-yard rusher.

Carter is poised to step in as the Jets' lead back beginning with Sunday's game against the Patriots after tests confirmed that Breece Hall (knee) suffered a season-ending ACL tear and minor meniscus injury in New York's Week 7 win over Denver, Adam Schefter and Rich Cimini of ESPN report.
EDGE Analysis
Carter had been seeing around 10 touches per game as a complement to Hall through the first seven weeks, but the second-year running back out of North Carolina likely will handle 15-plus touches on a regular basis moving forward as the top backfield option in a run-heavy Jets offense. Ty Johnson also should see an increase in playing time while he likely moves up to the No. 2 role out of the backfield as a result of Hall's injury, but Carter's ability to play in all situations should allow him to take on most of the vacated snaps.

Carter rushed 13 times for 29 yards and caught both of his targets for 45 yards in Sunday's 16-9 win over the Broncos.
EDGE Analysis
Both offenses struggled in this one, but the largest development for Carter was the exit of Breece Hall (knee) with what's feared to be a torn ACL. Carter took over as the primary running back after Hall's exit and failed to find much room on the ground but set up a field goal with a 37-yard catch. After getting no more than 12 touches in any of the previous five games, Carter will likely see significantly more usage in Week 8 against the Patriots and beyond with Hall sidelined.
