McGloin is listed as the Raiders' No. 2 quarterback heading into their first preseason game against the Cardinals, Eddie Paskal of Raiders.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McGloin is currently edging out rookie quarterback Connor Cook for the primary back-up spot behind starter Derek Carr. McGloin has served in this role for the past couple of seasons, but Cook could prove himself worthy throughout the rest of training camp.

McGloin received a second-round tender from the Raiders on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
McGloin headed into the offseason as a restricted free agent but is now scheduled to make $2.55 million with the Raiders under the terms of the tender. The former undrafted quarterback can still negotiate with other teams during free agency but the Raiders have the opportunity to match any offer he receives. If they decline to match an offer, they will receive a second-round pick in compensation. After starting six games in his rookie campaign, McGloin has cemented himself as David Carr's backup the past few seasons.

McGloin completed 23-of-31 passes for 142 yards, adding two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Bengals.
EDGE Analysis
McGloin took over for Derek Carr on Sunday who left in the third quarter with an injury to his throwing hand. The third-year quarterback and the Raiders' offense struggled to move the ball against a tough Bengals defense. He did end up with two touchdown passes, but they both came late in the game during garbage time when the Bengals had already removed multiple starters. After a tight competition with Christian Ponder for the back-up quarterback position, McGloin clearly looks to be the starter moving forward if Derek Carr has to miss any extended time.

McGloin is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers. Matt Schaub will serve as the backup quarterback. McGloin replaced an injured Derek Carr in Oakland's last game while Schaub sat out due to a personal matter. New coach Tony Sparano has opted to go with Schaub as the backup. Carr will start, but any Oakland passer would likely struggle against the red-hot Chargers.

McGloin, who entered Sunday's game against the Dolphins in the third quarter after Derek Carr was forced out with knee and ankle injuries, completed 12-of-19 passes for 129 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. McGloin entered the fray with Matt Schaub away from the team due to a family matter, though the Raiders were already trailing big and he couldn't do much to bring them back. He did throw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Andre Holmes, though it was the end of the offense for the Raiders, who lost 38-14. Carr reportedly suffered a high ankle sprain and a sprained MCL, though he'll get a little extra time to recover with the Raiders on bye in Week 5. McGloin didn't do much Sunday to warrant the starting job if Carr can't play, leaving Schaub to likely take over under center.

Prior to acquiring Matt Schaub, the Raiders reportedly used a "(Matt) McGloin Bar" to evaluate available quarterbacks because they "wanted someone better to start next season." Schaub was apparently above the "McGloin Bar." Of course, Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie has proven to be the league's poorest quarterback evaluator during his brief time on the job. He's traded away Carson Palmer, traded for Matt Flynn and Schaub, and cut Tyler Wilson after drafting him in the fourth round. The Raiders reportedly see 2013 UDFA McGloin as a competent long-term backup.

The Raiders will start Terrelle Pryor in Week 17 against the Broncos, sending Matt McGloin to the bench.

Coach Dennis Allen said he will stick with Matt McGloin as his starting quarterback for Week 16. It's somewhat surprising after McGloin was horrific against the Chiefs Sunday, going 18-of-36 (50.0 percent) for 297 yards with two touchdowns and four ugly interceptions. The undrafted rookie has now lost four straight games, failing to top a 72.7 passer rating in any of those contests. Allen's insistence on sticking with McGloin suggests he has no interest whatsoever in trying to develop Terrelle Pryor. That ship has sailed.

Matt McGloin completed 19-of-39 passes for 309 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions in Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Chiefs. McGloin got hot for a short stretch in the second half as the Raiders reeled off 21 unanswered points, but he was atrocious on the whole. Against a very aggressive and ball-hawking Chiefs defense, McGloin's poor arm showed often and he failed to see defenders outside his sight-lines far too many times. It led to a performance that will have the Raiders questioning if they can go back to him in Week 16 -- or give Terrelle Pryor another shot.

Matt McGloin will remain the Raiders' starter for Week 15. Coach Dennis Allen has said the Raiders would like to evaluate both McGloin and Terrelle Pryor down the stretch, but it appears Pryor will be "evaluated" off the bench. Pryor played one series in Sunday's loss to the Jets. McGloin did not play well in New York, but probably gives the Raiders their best chance to win against the Chiefs. Pryor was battered for nine sacks when the teams met in Week 6. The door remains wide open for Oakland to select a signal caller in May's draft.
