Forte (knee) announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday in a statement released to SportsSpectrum.com.
EDGE Analysis
Though he indicated earlier this month that he intended to play in 2018, Forte has apparently reconsidered his future in football and will call an end to a productive 10-year career. His decision to step away from the NFL saves the Jets approximately $3 million against the salary cap the upcoming season, while also sparing the organization of having to cut him ahead of the start of the new league year March 14. Forte saw his effectiveness dip in his two seasons in New York while battling knee issues, but has generally been one of the NFL's top three-down backs since entering the league as a second-round pick of the Bears in 2008. Forte, a two-time Pro Bowl honoree, retires with career marks of 9,746 rushing yards, 554 receptions, 4,672 receiving yards and 75 touchdowns over 146 regular-season contests.

Forte (knee) said Friday that he's hopeful to continue his playing career in 2018, Calvin Watkins of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
If Forte is serious about keeping his career alive, he'll likely have to find a new home, as the Jets are expected to cut the 32-year-old during the offseason. Though he's still an effective pass catcher, Forte has been limited by chronic knee problems during his past two seasons in New York that have limited him to 3.7 yards per carry both in 2016 and 2017. As a result, it's unlikely that any team that picks Forte up this offseason would earmark the veteran for much more than a third-down role.

Forte (knee) is likely to be cut this offseason, NorthJersey.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forte battled a number of injuries this season, and with Bilal Powell and Eliajah McGuire handling the workload in his absence, there appears little reason for the Jets to bring back the 32-year-old. Forte played only 13 games this year, rushing 103 times for 381 yards and two touchdowns while also adding 37 receptions on 45 targets for 293 receiving yards and another score. He's still a very usable running back when healthy, but his days of handling a full complement of touches seem over.

The Jets placed Forte (knee) on injured reserve Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Forte will finish his season with a career low 381 yards rushing and just two touchdowns. He also provided 293 yards and one touchdown through the air on 37 receptions. The 32-year-old running back will now set his sights on the 2018 season, assuming he wants to return.. In his absence, Bilal Powell and Elija McGuire figure to see the majority of the work in the Jets' backfield.

Forte (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's season finale against the Patriots.
EDGE Analysis
Per Darrlyl Slater of NJ.com, Forte relayed Thursday that he's spent much of the season "playing on one leg" while battling with swelling in his right knee. Assuming Forte toughs it out in Sunday's 1:00 ET contest, he'd be in line to work in a time-share with Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire, an arrangement that hasn't yielded robust production from Forte over his last three outings. He therefore profiles as a Week 17 fantasy dart, given his reduced volume of late.

Forte, who sat out Thursday's practice, said he feels like he's spent most of the season "playing on one leg" due to swelling in his right knee, Darryl Slater of NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
In recognition of the pain Forte continues to experience with the knee, the Jets have routinely given him days off practice throughout the season in an attempt to keep him fresh for game days. While he's been able to suit up for 12 of the Jets' 15 games -- including each of the last four -- Forte has seen his effectiveness wane as he's played through the injury and been stuck in a timeshare with Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire. Forte stated that he won't require surgery on the knee and plans to return to the Jets in 2018 to honor the final year of his contract, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he was limited or held out entirely of the Week 17 contest against the Patriots.

Forte (knee) isn't participating in practice Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Absences from practice have been par for the course for Forte throughout the second half of the season while he has managed an injury to his right knee. Considering he has suited up for the Jets' last five games and wasn't reported to have experienced any setbacks in the Week 16 loss to the Chargers, it's likely that Forte will be able to play if needed Sunday against the Patriots. However, given that the 5-10 Jets have little on the line in the season finale, it wouldn't be surprising if Forte was rested for the contest in order to afford more touches to the three younger backs on the roster (Bilal Powell, Elijah McGuire and Akeem Judd).

Forte (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Connor Hughes of NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forte has been playing through the same injury for much of the season, suiting up for the past five games despite missing the majority of practices. However, the Jets might consider resting him in Week 17 to get a better look at sixth-round rookie Elijah McGuire in conjunction with Bilal Powell.

Forte (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
EDGE Analysis
As was the case last week, Forte didn't practice in any capacity, but ultimately gained clearance for game day. It's evident that the knee issue is still a concern for the veteran, and that injury along with the presence of Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire (illness) should continue to result in head coach Todd Bowles taking a committee approach to the backfield over the final two games of the season. Forte is averaging a meager 46.2 yards and has scored once over his last four appearances, making it difficult to justify starting him in most fantasy lineups.

Forte (knee) is expected to play Sunday against San Diego, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forte is listed as questionable on the official injury report. Schefter also adds that Elijah McGuire (illness) is expected to play as well. If both are healthy, they would split carries with Bilal Powell. Such an arrangement may cap Forte's fantasy upside in Week 16.
