49ers GM Trent Baalke insists RB Marcus Lattimore (knee, hamstring) has not suffered a setback.
Lattimore has missed the first three days of camp after being limited in spring workouts. "He's coming off, as we all know, a horrific injury," said Baalke. "... But as far as setbacks, no." We remain highly skeptical Lattimore will make any 2014 impact. With Kendall Hunter (ACL)) already lost for the season, rookie Carlos Hyde and Frank Gore are the 49ers' fantasy backs to own.

49ers RB Marcus Lattimore is on the active/PUP list nursing ailments to both his hamstring and knees.
Lattimore shredded both knees at South Carolina, and battled a hamstring injury during the spring. All signs point to Lattimore being a 2014 non-factor.

ESPN's Bill Williamson reports Marcus Lattimore (knees, NFI) is "fine," and could practice "very soon."
In Williamson's estimation, the 49ers are simply being careful with their second-year back, who hasn't played since his second devastating knee injury in as many years ended his college career in 2012. Lattimore isn't going to be hidden away on the reserve/NFI list for the second-consecutive year, but there have been strong indications he's nowhere near the player he was before his injuries.

ESPN's Field Yates reports 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knees) will begin training camp on the active/NFI list.
Lattimore has plenty of time to round into form for Week 1, but it's an obvious disappointment he still isn't 100 percent nearly two years after the knee injury that ended his college career. CSN Bay Area reported late last month that Lattimore had a "ways to go" to regain his pre-injury form. Rookie Carlos Hyde is shaping up as the heavy favorite to handcuff Frank Gore. Lattimore has no current value in re-draft leagues.

Per CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, 49ers second-year RB Marcus Lattimore "made significant progress" over the course of spring practices, but "still appears to have a ways to go" to rediscover pre-knee injuries form.
Lattimore "appeared very tentative" at rookie minicamp and early OTAs, but got better as practices went on. He also "demonstrated reliable hands out of the backfield," according to Maiocco. Lattimore isn't on the re-draft fantasy radar at this point, and and we want to see him perform in preseason games before putting him there. Rookie Carlos Hyde is a superior late-round draft pick.

According to the Sacramento Bee, Marcus Lattimore (knee surgeries, hamstring) looks "noticeably better and more explosive than he did two weeks ago."
Lattimore is at least making progress as he tried to carve out a role. By showing some burst, he gives himself a chance to be in the conversation behind Frank Gore. However, he has a steep hill to climb as Carlos Hyde is penciled in as the early-down backup and Kendall Hunter is the change-of-pace option. Lattimore is well off the re-draft radar until we see him near 100 percent.

49ers RB Marcus Lattimore (knee surgeries) is taking handoffs at OTAs at less than full speed.
He's practicing without a brace. Per beat writer Matt Barrows, Lattimore "didn't appear to be going at full speed but didn't look hindered either." Coach Jim Harbaugh revealed Lattimore previously dealt with a hamstring strain, which threatened his availability for rookie minicamp. He did wind up taking part on a limited basis. We remain skeptical Lattimore will make a 2014 impact.

49ers second-year RB Marcus Lattimore is participating in rookie minicamp.
Lattimore was expected to sit out minicamp with soreness in both of his legs, but the 49ers have cleared him to practice on a limited basis. While it's a good sign that he's healthy enough to return to the field, Lattimore remains questionable for the start of training camp. Lattimore can participate in rookie camp because he spent all of 2013 on the reserve/NFI list.

49ers second-year RB Marcus Lattimore revealed early this week that he is dealing with soreness in both of his legs.
Lattimore put a positive spin on it: "About 6-7 months ago, it would just be my left leg that would be sore. Now I'm balanced on both legs. Feeling good, man." Lattimore will not participate in the 49ers' rookie minicamp, and it's unclear when he'll be ready to practice. "(He'll be) going at the speed the doctors allow him and his body allows him to go," coach Jim Harbaugh said.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh revealed second-year RB Marcus Lattimore is "working through something" and will not take part in rookie minicamp.
Lattimore is eligible for rookie camp despite not technically being a rookie because he spent all of 2013 on the reserve/non-football injury list. Harbaugh did not disclose what is bothering Lattimore, but said it's not related to his balky knees. We're not counting on Lattimore to be a major 2014 contributor. The 49ers' second-round pick of Carlos Hyde suggests they aren't, either.
