When asked Sunday for a timetable for his return to full action, Mitchell -- who dislocated his left elbow on Aug. 11 -- said he didn't "have an answer for that," CSN New England reports.
EDGE Analysis
On the plus side, Mitchell -- who has returned to the practice field in a limited capacity -- while sporting a large brace around his elbow, noted Sunday that he's "feeling good...feeling a lot better than the day it happened." Once he's able to play without restrictions, Mitchell could emerge as a candidate to claim the Patriots' "X" receiver role, but for now his early-season fantasy upside is somewhat stalled by his elbow issue. Beyond that, it may take some in-season injuries for Mitchell to merit lineup consideration, given that there are plenty of other options in the Patriots' passing attack, namely fellow wideouts Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan (and Danny Amendola to a lesser degree), as well as the team's talented tight end combo of Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett.

ESPN's Mike Reiss indicates that Mitchell (elbow) is a candidate to claim the Patriots' "X" receiver role.
EDGE Analysis
For that to happen, Mitchell must prove that he's past the elbow injury he suffered last week, but the rookie wideout has already returned to the practice field, which bodes well on that front. That said, there are plenty of other mouths to feed in the Patriots' passing attack, namely fellow wideouts Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan -- and Danny Amendola to a lesser degree -- as well as the team's formidable tight end duo of Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett. Still, as Reiss suggests, "Mitchell has a chance to match Aaron Dobson's 37-catch rookie season in 2012, and his longer-term ceiling is higher."

Mitchell (elbow) was present for practice Monday in full pads, WEEI.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Per the report, Mitchell sported a large sleeve/brace to protect the left elbow that he dislocated in Thursday's preseason opener. Previous reports suggested that Mitchell might miss several weeks, but his presence on the field Monday is an encouraging development that suggests that the rookie wideout may not be that far from a return to game action.

An MRI on the dislocated left elbow that Mitchell suffered during Thursday's preseason opener "came up clean," ESPN.com's Mike Reiss relays.
EDGE Analysis
With that context confirmed by the MRI, Reiss adds that the hope remains that Mitchell will be able to return in "around four weeks." Once he does, Mitchell will look to secure a role in the New England passing game, with the team's depth chart at the wideout position still topped by Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola (when healthy) and Chris Hogan. Prior to suffering his injury Thursday, Mitchell made a mark in his pro debut, leading the Patriots with four catches for 55 yards (on five targets), while seeing 15 offensive snaps.

Mitchell suffered a dislocated elbow in Thursday's preseason game against the Saints and could be back in four weeks, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell tried bracing himself while being tackled and looked to be in severe pain after suffering the injury. All things considered, the news could be a lot worse for the rookie fourth-round draft pick. He will surely miss out on the rest of the preseason, but could return as soon as Week 1 if recovery goes as fast as possible.

Mitchell went down with an apparent arm injury in Thursday's preseason opener against the Saints, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell tried to brace himself with his arm as he was being tackled. He was in severe pain following the tackle, and headed straight to the locker room. The Patriots took the Georgia product in the fourth-round of the 2016 draft. Expect an update when more information is made available.

Mitchell is making strides as training camp progresses.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie wideout has looked solid at practice of late, with injuries to Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola currently affording Mitchell and the team's other depth wideouts added practice reps. The heady fourth-rounder doesn't have a clear path to an abundance of targets early on in his NFL career, but given the quality of the Patriots' passing offense, particularly when helmed by QB Tom Brady, the Georgia product has some fantasy upside down the road if/when an expanded role is on hand.

The Patriots selected Mitchell in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 112th overall.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell was one of the most highly touted recruits in his class coming out of high school, but a torn ACL in the 2013 season opener against Clemson set him back. He struggled the following year, reeling in 31 receptions for 248 yards, which averages out to a paltry 8.0 YPR mark. He took a major leap in his final season at Georgia and bumped up his production to 58 grabs for 865 yards (14.91 YPC) and five scores. Mitchell, at 6-0, 198 pounds, has big hands and he shows a willingness to go up and compete on 50/50 balls. He figures to add an intermediate-to-vertical threat to the Patriots' offense and could quickly ascend the depth chart if he stays healthy.
