Alexander signed a two-year, $9 million contract extension with the Bills on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. He will earn $4.1 million in guaranteed salary.

EDGE Analysis

Alexander expressed an interest in sticking around Buffalo, and now the 33-year-old has officially put pen to paper. The veteran outside linebacker racked up some massive totals out of nowhere last season, compiling 76 tackles (56 solo) and 12.5 sacks on the season in addition to two interceptions and three forced fumbles. It's unlikely he will repeat that production in 2017, but could enjoy more success than he had in the other six seasons of his career.

Alexander, who will be an unrestricted free agent in March, says he'd like to re-sign with the Bills but also wants to see what the new coaching staff looks like, BuffaloBills.com reports. "I would definitely love to be a Buffalo Bill next year," said the veteran. "Obviously we haven't talked about anything just yet. Everything is really fresh, but I will definitely weigh my options and see what happens. Coaching change, who's back, there's a lot that goes into it. So once my wife and I have all the facts and everything is laid out we'll make the decision that's best for our family."

EDGE Analysis

Alexander is coming off a "where the heck did this come from?" season where he posted 76 tackles and 12.5 sacks, crazy considering the 33-year-old never had more than 2.5 in any of his previous nine NFL seasons. However, we believe this was a confluence of good fortune, as Alexander thrived in Rex Ryan's defense and the role he was perfectly suited for. With some younger Bills about to get more playing time and with Ryan ousted, Alexander's role will be different whether in Buffalo or any other NFL city. Don't overbid for him in IDP leagues next season.

Alexander logged four tackles and a sack in Sunday's loss to the Jets, giving him 12.5 quarterback takedowns on the season, tied for third in the league.

EDGE Analysis

No one saw this coming out of the 33-year-old veteran. Alexander's now an unrestricted free agent, so we'll see if the Bills try to bring him back. Due to his age, he may not be highly sought after by the rest of the league even with that eye-popping sack total, but he probably wouldn't reach that with the Bills again either, as an entire new regime and defense will be taking over soon.

Alexander posted 1.5 sacks and 10 tackles in Sunday's 33-13 victory over the Browns.

EDGE Analysis

Despite rotating with Jerry Hughes and Shaq Lawson for two linebacker spots, Alexander continued his amazing season by snapping a four-game drought in which he failed to record a sack. He now has 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception on the year, and will be an upside IDP option in the fantasy playoffs.

Alexander, who logged seven tackles and his first interception of the season last week, is expected to be part of a rotation with Jerry Hughes and Shaq Lawson for two spots, BuffaloBills.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

That's not the end of the world for an overworked 33-year-old, but it does mean less snaps for Alexander the rest of the way. While he's been an amazing surprise IDP this season with 57 tackles and 10 sacks, he's slowed down lately with a four-game sackless streak heading into Sunday's game against the Browns. It may be time to look for other options, while if you're sticking with Alexander at least you'll get a matchup vs. a team that's given up a whopping 48 sacks to date.

Alexander intercepted a pass and recorded seven tackles in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Steelers.

EDGE Analysis

After a hot start to the season, when he had 10 sacks over his first nine games, Alexander was quiet in three games before picking off Ben Roethlisberger. Although his overall numbers are great, he's not a strong IDP option in the fantasy playoffs.

Alexander (ankle) practiced on a limited basis Friday for the second straight day and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Oakland.

EDGE Analysis

Alexander will almost certainly suit up, but at some point the Bills are going to have to reduce his snap count, as the 33-year-old has played 69.0 percent of the defensive snaps to go along with 54.9 percent of the special teams snaps.

Alexander (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

While the 33-year-old's absence was likely a precautionary measure, his participation in practice throughout the remainder of the week is still worth monitoring. However, it should be noted that Alexander hasn't missed a single game the entire season.
