Dobbs will compete with Landry Jones for a roster spot, ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler reports.
EDGE Analysis
Selected in the fourth round last year, Dobbs spent his entire rookie season as the No. 3 quarterback, never quite making a push to overtake Jones. The Tennessee product thus finds himself on the roster bubble entering his second season, though the Steelers have incentive from a salary cap perspective to release Jones instead of Dobbs if they decide that rookie third-round pick Mason Rudolph is ready for the No. 2 role. It might also make sense to see if they can trade Dobbs for a late-round pick.

Dobbs was active but did not take the field in Sunday's win over the Browns.
EDGE Analysis
Selected in the fourth round (135th overall pick) of the 2017 draft, Dobbs never took an offensive snap this season, with Ben Roethlisberger throwing all but two of Pittsburgh's 563 passes entering Week 17. Landry Jones got the start in the season finale, but has been unimpressive in his career. Roethlisberger has hinted about retiring in the recent past, which could create an opportunity for Dobbs. Should Big Ben return for the 2018 season, Dobbs would likely compete with Jones for the backup job.

Dobbs (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns, Teresa Varley of Steelers.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Steelers have elected to dress only two quarterbacks in Week 1, with Landry Jones serving as Ben Roethlisberger's backup. Dobbs' NFL debut will have to wait, while it remains to be seen if Pittsburgh plans to keep the 2017 fourth-rounder sidelined in Week 2 as well.

Dobbs completed 10 of 19 passes for 70 yards and a pick in Sunday's preseason win over Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
With Ben Roethisberger and Landry Jones both nursing injuries, Dobbs got the start on Sunday and, while the final product wasn't inspiring, he showed good pocket mobility and had a nice 23-yard strike to Martavis Bryant. Dobbs, recently removed from Tennessee's spread attack, is likely a developmental prospect that won't see the field any time soon. On the other hand, Pittsburgh is just two seasons removed from having to turn to a third-string quarterback, a product of Roethlisberger's style of play and expansive injury history.

Dobbs will start Sunday's preseason game against the Falcons.
EDGE Analysis
Dobbs completed eight of 15 attempts for 100 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions while starting Pittsburgh's preseason opener last week. With Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) set to sit out again and backup Landry Jones (abdomen) not fully healthy, the rookie fourth-rounder will get a chance to improve on his debut while still working with the first-team offense.

Dobbs likely will start Sunday's preseason game against Atlanta, ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dobbs struggled as the starter in Pittsburgh's preseason opener, completing eight of 15 passes for 100 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) will be held out for a second straight week, but there is some chance No. 2 quarterback Landry Jones (abdomen) will be available after he returned to practice Wednesday. Dobbs, a fourth-round pick in this year's draft, figures to make the final roster as a developmental project behind Roethlisberger and Jones.

Dobbs completed 8-of-15 passes for 100 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in Friday's preseason opener against the Giants. He also added a 16-yard scramble and took three sacks.
EDGE Analysis
Dobbs got off to a shaky start, producing a pair of three-and-outs and two interceptions in the first four possessions. The rookie fourth-rounder settled down from there, leading the offense to two field goals and a touchdown before exiting late in the third quarter. He may have been taken with the same pick number as Dak Prescott, but it's clear Dobbs isn't nearly as NFL-ready as Dallas' signal caller was coming into the league last year. Don't expect him to be a factor once Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) and Landry Jones (abdomen) return.

Dobbs will start Friday's preseason game against the Steelers, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) and Landry Jones (abdomen) tending to injuries, the Steelers are expected to keep the first two quarterbacks on the roster on the sideline. Consequently, Dobbs will receive plenty of run in his initial opportunity as a professional. Once he takes a seat, undrafted free agent Bart Houston will likely be called upon to direct the offense.

Dobbs got to work with the first-team offense in practice Thursday, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Ray Fittipaldo.
EDGE Analysis
Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) was unable to finish practice, and Landry Jones (abdomen) continues to be out, creating an opportunity for Dobbs to show the coaching staff what he can do. The fourth round draft pick is competing with Jones to back-up Roethlisberger this season, but could be the quarterback of the future with Big Ben continuing to talk about his possible retirement after this campaign.

The Steelers selected Dobbs in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 135th overall.
EDGE Analysis
Dobbs (6-foot-3, 216 pounds) is a great athlete and verified genius with lots of starting experience, and he has the tools to make for an interesting developmental project behind Ben Roethlisberger. While his downfield accuracy was quite strong by the end of his Tennessee career, Dobbs never showed the natural ability to read defenses that you'd like to see in a quarterback. If his experiment at quarterback doesn't go well, Dobbs has the athleticism to transition to receiver.
