Josh Cribbs has been officially diagnosed with a concussion, but expects to play in Week 5 against the Giants.
It's no shock Cribbs is concussed following one of the most brutal collisions you'll ever see, but he might have a legit chance at returning in Week 5 after appearing surprisingly lucid before he headed to the locker room. Nevertheless, Cribbs wasn't a fantasy option before his injury, and certainly won't be one upon his return. Consider him week-to-week.

Josh Cribbs left Thursday night's game against the Ravens with an apparent head or neck injury and will not return.
Cribbs took a shoulder to the back of the head while returning a punt and lost his helmet, then smacked the back of his head on the turf. He walked off under his own power but laid on the field motionless for a minute or two. Cribbs drew the start at receiver in place of the injured Mohamed Massaquoi.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur reiterated Monday that WR Josh Cribbs' primary role will be on special teams.
"He's gonna be active, and he's gonna be a returner," Shurmur said. "So that being the case, he's gonna line up and play receiver at times. . I think it's realistic that he's gonna get his snaps at receiver much like he did last year." The Browns are too thin and young at receiver to phase Cribbs out completely, but he won't approach the 41/518/4 line he posted in 2011.

Josh Cribbs is listed as a third-string wide receiver on the Browns' initial depth chart.
It's further proof the special teams dynamo is being phased out on offense. Greg Little and Mohamed Massaquoi are listed as the starters, with Josh Gordon and Travis Benjamin, respectively, their top backups. Cribbs' days of pseudo-fantasy relevance are over.

Browns WR/KR Josh Cribbs admits he's likely in for a reduced role on offense this season.
Browns beat writers have been hinting at the possibility for months. Cribbs expects to be a part of "all" special teams return and coverage units. Cribbs posted a 41/518/4 line across 567 offensive snaps last season, but won't approach any of those numbers in 2012. He's off the fantasy radar, save for leagues with return yardage.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer expects Browns WR Josh Cribbs to see "heavy duty" snaps on special teams.
Cribbs has seen "heavy duty" snaps on special teams his entire career, but the report is notable because it suggests his role will be scaled back on offense. ESPN Cleveland reported Sunday Cribbs would likely be used "in a more limited capacity" on offense. Cribbs saw 567 offensive snaps last season, drawing 63 targets. He won't approach those numbers in 2012.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi confirms his suspicion that Josh Cribbs will be used "in a more limited capacity" on offense.
Grossi expects the Browns' coaching staff to lessen Cribbs' offensive role once they realize that he is "invaluable" as a special teams player. With Travis Benjamin and Josh Cooper now in the mix behind Mohamed Massaquoi and emerging Greg Little, Cribbs only figures to see a dozen or so snaps each week.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi ''gets the impression'' that the Browns view Josh Cribbs as a special teams player first, and a receiver second.
Grossi also previously suggested that Cribbs is ''on the decline with the coaching staff.'' The Browns have upgraded at wide receiver with rookies Travis Benjamin and Josh Cooper, and both Mohamed Massaquoi and Carlton Mitchell are now healthy. Always more ''gadget-type'' than legitimate receiver, Cribbs is unlikely to see a significant role on offense.

Jeff Schudel of The News Herald thinks 2012 could be Josh Cribbs' last season with the Browns.
Schudel points to Cribb's age (will be 30 when 2013 kicks off) and the league's new kickoff rules, which diminish the value of return specialists like Cribbs. Additionally, the Browns have upgraded at wide receiver with Greg Little and Travis Benjamin, forcing Cribbs out of a significant offensive role. Due $1.438 million this season, he'd need to take a pay cut to land himself an extension.
