Washington is picking up the fifth-year option on Allen's rookie contract, Kevin Sheehan of The Team 980 reports.
EDGE Analysis
After missing 11 games his rookie season, the 2017 first-round pick is coming off back-to-back campaign with at least six sacks and more than 60 tackles. Allen spent the past three years playing defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, but he'll likely move to defensive tackle as coach Ron Rivera and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio transition the team to a 4-3 base alignment. With Allen, Daron Payne and Matthew Ioannidis providing interior push while Chase Young, Montez Sweat and Ryan Kerrigan come off the edge, Washington has potential to sport a dominant pass rush in 2020. Allen's fifth-year option for 2021 will be guaranteed for injury only.

Allen compiled 68 tackles (46 solo), six sacks and a fumble recovery in 15 games during the 2019 season.
EDGE Analysis
Allen suffered a knee sprain Week 1 and missed the next game, but he played in 14 consecutive contests to close out the season, averaging 51.1 defensive snaps per week. Coming off back-to-back seasons with 61 or more tackles and six or more sacks while playing in a 3-4 scheme, the 2017 first-round pick is an excellent bet to receive the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. Allen will head into 2020 with a new head coach (Ron Rivera) and a new defensive coordinator (Jack Del Rio).

Allen (toe) won't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Allen began the week as a limited practice participant, but he practiced fully Friday to avoid the questionable tag. The 24-year-old should work in his typical starting role at defensive end this weekend.

Allen has a toe injury and was a limited participant at practice Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Allen saw his typical workload in Sunday's loss to the Eagles and recorded a season-high nine tackles, but he apparently didn't finish the contest unscathed. However, the fact the 24-year-old is practicing in some capacity to begin the week puts him on track to play this weekend.

Allen (ankle/knee) won't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Lions.
EDGE Analysis
Allen began the week not practicing but put in a full session Friday to avoid the questionable tag. The 24-year-old has 38 tackles (24 solo) and four sacks through nine games and should see a heavy workload again Sunday.

Allen (ankle/knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Allen was a surprise DNP on Wednesday's injury report but was already back out there Thursday. He is trending the right direction for Sunday's tilt with the Lions.

Allen (ankle/knee) didn't practice Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Allen logged a season-high 59 defensive snaps during this past Sunday's loss to the Jets, so it's unclear how he sustained these issues. The 2017 first-round pick's status for this Sunday's matchup against the Lions will be in doubt unless he can get onto the practice field in some capacity.

Allen had seven tackles (three solo) and a sack in Thursday's loss to Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Allen led the Redskins' defensive ends with 57 defensive snaps and brought down Kirk Cousins on third down in the second quarter to hold the Vikings to a field goal. The 24-year-old had a slow start with zero sacks through the first four weeks of the season -- including one absence due to a knee injury -- but he now has four sacks and 22 total tackles over the last four games.

Allen finished Sunday's 17-16 win over the Dolphins with three tackles, including a pair of sacks.
EDGE Analysis
It was a productive afternoon for Allen who, despite a season-low 37 snaps, twice brought down the opposing quarterback and now has three sacks in five games. He remains a risky option in IDP formats because of a limited role, but Allen could soon see more opportunities if he keeps up this level of play. The 24-year-old defensive end is certainly a player to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
