Simon can get lost among the more well-known names on Houston's defense, but the he's quietly putting together the finest season of his four-year NFL career. The former Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year (Ohio State) is second on the Texans in tackles (49) and sacks (3.5), and has forced one fumble.

Simon recorded six tackles, three quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks in Houston's win over Kansas City in Week 2. He's recorded sacks in each of the first two games.

Simon, who had 5.0 sacks in 2015, made some big plays during preseason, forcing the coaching staff to find a spot for him in the starting lineup. As such, defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel moved Jadeveon Clowney to defensive end in order to get Simon on the field.

This will be his third year in the Texans' system and is coming off a 2015 season in which he played all 16 games (seven starts) and registered 5.0 sacks. With Clowney's health a question mark, Simon is the first reserve off the bench at outside linebacker.

The Texans have signed Simon from the Ravens' practice squad, Mark Berman of FOX26 reports. Ricky Sapp was placed on IR in a corresponding move, but Simon's immediate role will likely be to add depth in Houston.
