Matchups to Exploit and Evade - Week 1 fantasysharks.com Tue 8/26/14 8:15 AM

Matchups to Exploit - Week 1 Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton and Reggie Wayne -- Indianapolis (at Denver) Trent Richardson still looks as though he's running in quicksand. Last year he averaged 3.8 yards per carry and a paltry 2.4 yards per carry in the preseason. As the Indianapolis Colts try to keep up with Peyton Manning and the potent Denver offense, look for Luck to air it out early and often. Last year Luck bested Manning, throwing for 228 yards and three touchdowns as well as rushing for 29 yards and a touchdown. Luck -- 330 total yards, 3 TD Hilton -- 5 receptions, 90 yards, TD Wayne -- 6 receptions, 70 yards, TD Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White -- Atlanta (vs. New Orleans) Ryan finally has Jones and White at full strength. Look for Atlanta to lineup three wide with Jones, White and Harry Douglas and challenge defenses to stop them. Douglas is underrated and silently caught 85 balls last year. Atlanta's 29th-ranked defense will do little to slow down opposing offenses. To keep pace with Drew Brees and New Orleans, look for a shootout in Atlanta! Ryan -- 320 passing yards, 2 TD Jones -- 7 receptions, 110 yards, TD White -- 6 receptions, 80 yards, TD Nick Foles and Jeremy Maclin -- Philadelphia (vs. Jacksonville) Foles looked to be in midseason form in his last preseason game against Pittsburgh. He can beat you by air and by land. He should have no problem carving up the porous Jacksonville Defense. Foles has been building chemistry with Maclin throughout camp. Start them both with confidence. Foles -- 280 total yards, 2 TD Maclin -- 5 receptions, 70 yards, TD Frank Gore -- San Francisco (at Dallas) The ageless one still has gas in the tank. If you drafted him, you must start him in Week 1 against the woeful Dallas defense. The Cowboys defense gave up on average 128 yards and one rushing touchdown per game against opposing running backs last year. If that's not enough, the Cowboys lost their biggest play-making linebacker Sean Lee for the year. Gore -- 90 total yards, TD Montee Ball -- Denver (vs. Indianapolis) Ball is the reason Denver let Knowshon Moreno go. The former Doak Walker Award Winner (given to the nation's best running back in college) gets his chance to shine in one of the NFL's most prolific offenses of all time. He's explosive, elusive and has good hands. He also faces Indianapolis' 28th-ranked rushing defense from last year. Ball -- 110 total yards, TD Alfred ...

Wally's World: Navigating down the 'Holiday Road' of Fantasy Football fantasysharks.com Mon 8/25/14 9:06 AM

The third week of preseason football is often referred to as the ‘dress rehearsal' week of action. The week where starters stay in the game for a half or more and give folks an extended look at players that will actually have fantasy relevance. Yes. It is all that but it is still just the preseason folks. Teams are still not running full game plans and preparing for specific opponents as they will in the regular season. I always caution folks to not overreact to specific performances...good or bad. Can we read trends and the way a player has looked from week to week to make educated guesses on how well or poorly they may play? Of course we can...and do. That's half the fun of this wonderful hobby. It's important to not throwaway weeks of draft preparation due to one bad game. Keeping things in perspective at this time of year is vital in building and maintaining a winning fantasy team. With all that in mind here are some things from a wild and woolly week three of the preseason that caught my wondering eyes. Something just seems ‘off' with the 49ers right now. They are missing a key component on their defense in the injured Navorro Bowman so there will be a transition phase there. It's the first team offense that looks out of sync. Can't put my finger on it but I'm not racing to draft a lot of their players. Pittsburgh running backs Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount may not be suspended anytime soon but they are immediately and will henceforth be known as idiots. One cannot even ask what they were thinking because obviously they were not. Wear the ‘Dunce Caps' well boys. You more than deserve them. The Steelers offense looked a bit disjointed against Philadelphia but unlike the case with the 49ers I'm not too concerned. "Big Ben" has a history of making things happen once the regular season starts and relying on his playmakers. This is especially true of WR Antonio Brown who looked to be one of two players on the same page as Roethlisberger on Thursday night along with... Tight end Heath Miller is on plenty of my rosters. Miller represents excellent late round draft value and should flirt with TE 1 production. It's tough to see Wes Welker suffer yet another concussion. It's been too familiar of an occurrence for him the past couple of years. Don't assume an extended absence by Welker immediately elevates the fantasy value of rookie WR Cody Latimer. Veteran Andre Caldwell was playing ahead of Latimer before Welker went out and had that two ...

Deep Deep Sleepers and Not so Obvious Busts fantasysharks.com Wed 8/6/14 9:06 AM

Most fantasy football experts cover their tracks and never really go out on a limb. You will hear an ESPN guy say Andre Ellington and Jeremy Maclin are sleepers, something my 7-year-old cousin could come up with. Sleepers are a key to success in any fantasy season. Last season you could have had Knowshon Moreno for a dollar in an auction league and it could have very well saved your team. It is also very important to stay away from the guys who could ruin your fantasy year. Last year, another expert from ESPN told you it was a good idea to take Maurice Jones-Drew in the first round. Below I list my deep sleepers for your draft and auction and also my not so obvious bust list. Deep Sleepers Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Minnesota -- I don't think the Vikings will be nearly as bad as people anticipate, and the Vikings offense has a bevy of weapons that include Adrian Peterson, Cordarrelle Patterson, Greg Jennings , Kyle Rudolph and a young solid offensive line. If you compare this to the situation that Johnny Manziel is in with no one to throw to besides Jordan Cameron, Bridgewater is absolutely a better option. The other positive with Bridgewater is his ability to run, which could give you an additional rushing touchdown here and there. Bridgewater is the 33rd-ranked quarterback in NFL.com fantasy rankings, and there is no reason that if he starts Day 1 he won't outperform guys like Chad Henne , Ryan Tannehill and Sam Bradford. Bridgewater was by far the best college quarterback besides Jameis Winston and I expect him to outperform what other fantasy experts project. James White, RB, New England -- One of the biggest things I have learned with fantasy running backs is to target guys who are on good teams that will often times be in the red zone. White is one of those guys who has often times been overlooked. He was a high school teammate of Giovani Bernard and he also received limited carries with Montee Ball and Melvin Gordon at Wisconsin. In New England, Stevan Ridley is in the dog house due to fumblitis and Shane Vereen is more a receiving threat so there are carries to be had. Couple that with the departure of LeGarrette Blount, who should be a goal-line machine in Pittsburgh, and signs point to White. The Patriots had 19 rushing touchdowns last season, which ranked tied for second, only behind Minnesota. It should be noted Christian Ponder had four rushing touchdowns in nine games which is why Bridgewater could easily get that many. I don't see any ...

Two NFC East Value Pick Sleepers: RG3 and Jeremy Maclin rotoballer.com Tue 8/5/14 4:35 AM

Hilton, Vincent Jackson, Wes Welker, WR and more! For Middle Round Sleeper Value, Look EastRobert Griffin III - QB, RedskinsRobert Griffin III was one of the most disappointing players in fantasy football last season. In ESPN's standard scoring leagues, RG3 had seven games where he finished with less than 15 points out of the thirteen games he started.  He threw only 16 touchdowns and chucked up 12 interceptions, a far cry from the supremely accurate passer that showed up to play in 2012.  After a scintillating 2012 season, Griffi[...] Keep on reading: Two NFC East Value Pick Sleepers: RG3 and Jeremy Maclin
