Matchups to Exploit and Evade - Week 1 fantasysharks.com Tue 8/26/14 8:15 AM

Matchups to Exploit - Week 1 Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton and Reggie Wayne -- Indianapolis (at Denver) Trent Richardson still looks as though he's running in quicksand. Last year he averaged 3.8 yards per carry and a paltry 2.4 yards per carry in the preseason. As the Indianapolis Colts try to keep up with Peyton Manning and the potent Denver offense, look for Luck to air it out early and often. Last year Luck bested Manning, throwing for 228 yards and three touchdowns as well as rushing for 29 yards and a touchdown. Luck -- 330 total yards, 3 TD Hilton -- 5 receptions, 90 yards, TD Wayne -- 6 receptions, 70 yards, TD Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White -- Atlanta (vs. New Orleans) Ryan finally has Jones and White at full strength. Look for Atlanta to lineup three wide with Jones, White and Harry Douglas and challenge defenses to stop them. Douglas is underrated and silently caught 85 balls last year. Atlanta's 29th-ranked defense will do little to slow down opposing offenses. To keep pace with Drew Brees and New Orleans, look for a shootout in Atlanta! Ryan -- 320 passing yards, 2 TD Jones -- 7 receptions, 110 yards, TD White -- 6 receptions, 80 yards, TD Nick Foles and Jeremy Maclin -- Philadelphia (vs. Jacksonville) Foles looked to be in midseason form in his last preseason game against Pittsburgh. He can beat you by air and by land. He should have no problem carving up the porous Jacksonville Defense. Foles has been building chemistry with Maclin throughout camp. Start them both with confidence. Foles -- 280 total yards, 2 TD Maclin -- 5 receptions, 70 yards, TD Frank Gore -- San Francisco (at Dallas) The ageless one still has gas in the tank. If you drafted him, you must start him in Week 1 against the woeful Dallas defense. The Cowboys defense gave up on average 128 yards and one rushing touchdown per game against opposing running backs last year. If that's not enough, the Cowboys lost their biggest play-making linebacker Sean Lee for the year. Gore -- 90 total yards, TD Montee Ball -- Denver (vs. Indianapolis) Ball is the reason Denver let Knowshon Moreno go. The former Doak Walker Award Winner (given to the nation's best running back in college) gets his chance to shine in one of the NFL's most prolific offenses of all time. He's explosive, elusive and has good hands. He also faces Indianapolis' 28th-ranked rushing defense from last year. Ball -- 110 total yards, TD Alfred Morris -- Washington (at Houston) Morris is one of the most consistent backs in all of football. He has gained at least 50 yards in all but one game in his two-year NFL career. Washington wants to take the pressure off of Robert Griffin III. Running Morris will do just that. Morris -- 90 total yards, TD Matchups to Avoid - Week 1 Phillip Rivers, Keenan Allen and Malcolm Floyd -- San Diego (at Arizona) Rivers to Allen will be a good tandem this year, but San Diego draws a rough matchup Week 1 against Arizona. Patrick Peterson and Antonio Cromartie are one of the best shutdown corner tandems in the league. Arizona ranked sixth last year in sacks, so they can pressure the quarterback. Rivers and company will be in for a long day in the desert. Rivers -- 210 yards, TD 2 INT Allen -- 4 receptions, 60 yards Floyd -- 3 receptions, 45 yards Mike Wallace -- Miami (vs. New England) Wallace will have a long frustrating game Week 1 against New England. Wallace will be left stranded on "Revis Island." Darrelle Revis, when healthy, is still one of the most dominant corners in the game and he will be stuck to Wallace like a cheap suit! Wallace -- 4 receptions, 50 yards Matt Schaub and Rod Streater -- Oakland (at New York Jets) Schaub has lost all confidence in his game. He had a meltdown last year with Houston and has followed that up with a less-than-stellar preseason. He has not thrown a touchdown in the preseason, has thrown an interception and is sporting a 55.1 quarterback rating in three preseason games. Steer clear! Schaub --Train Wreck Streater -- Avoid until something positive comes his way Eddie Lacy -- Green Bay (at Seattle) Lacy is a stud running back, but he has an extremely rough matchup Week 1. Seattle's defense is just downright nasty. Last year Seattle gave up only four rushing touchdowns on the entire year. Temper your expectations for Week 1. Lacy -- 70 total yards Le'Veon Bell -- Pittsburgh (vs. Cleveland) There is some uncertainty and baggage with Bell this year. We are looking at a Bell/LeGarrette Blount timeshare. You can't ignore Blount's role. He runs with authority and Bell recently admitted that he is the goal line back. Their recent rendition of Cheech and Chong is not what you want out of an early-round back. Cleveland's defense is no pushover like years past. Bell -- 60 total yards Ryan Mathews -- San Diego (at Arizona) Mathews is in a full-time timeshare. Danny Woodhead is the third down and red zone running back. Donald Brown will also spell Mathews. Did I mention Arizona was the No. 1 rated rushing defense in the NFL last year? The Cardinals gave up only five rushing touchdowns on the entire year. Matthews -- 50 total yards
