Fred Davis stuck around the Redskins' facility to catch passes from Rex Grossman throughout the Week 5 bye. The Washington Times notes that Davis "noticeable improved" after doing the same during the Redskins' 2009 bye. Davis' production has slowed down in the last two games, but he remains the second best bet in D.C. for targets, catches, and receiving yards. Against the Eagles, Davis will be a top-12 tight end play.

Fred Davis caught four passes for 34 yards in Sunday's win over the Rams. He was targeted six times in his second straight quiet performance. Davis is on pace for 64 catches and 992 yards through his first four games, but it's safe to say that's a rate he's unlikely to keep up at. He remains the tight end to own in Washington, however, and should still be considered a TE1 until further notice.

Fred Davis caught just one pass for 23 yards in Week 3 against Dallas. It was a rough night for Davis, who had his first target thrown out of his reach and his next target intercepted. Those were the only two looks - aside from the 23-yard reception - that Davis saw on the night. He was outproduced by Chris Cooley, but don't let the boxscore fool you. Davis is still the far superior option of the two, and should be in line for a rebound in Week 4 against St. Louis.

Fred Davis played 56 snaps in Week 2 compared to 37 for Chris Cooley. Davis was alone on 42 snaps versus Cooley's 23. Both tight ends are gaining plenty of playing time, but only Davis is producing. Davis' 191 yards thus far are more than Cooley has ever produced in back-to-back games over his eight-year career. Opined Rich Campbell of the Washington Times, "If Davis continues to run block like he did against Arizona, he'll barely come off the field." Davis is a must-add in any league where he remains available. He's a potential top-five fantasy tight end this year.

Fred Davis caught six passes for 86 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. As expected, Davis' Week 1 breakout was not a fluke. He was the first read on the majority of third-down plays today, consistently abusing linebacker Joey Porter to get wide open. Davis' athleticism at the tight end position is elite and he racked up seven targets today compared to Chris Cooley's two. Davis is a TE1 in fantasy.

Coach Mike Shanahan acknowledged that TE Fred Davis took advantage of his increased snaps in Week 1. "It wasn't anything that we didn't see before [in practice]," Shanahan said. "He took advantage of an opportunity showing people in the NFL that he belongs. He can make big plays." Chris Cooley (knee) recently revealed that he's pushing against doctors' expectations by playing in September. Davis' increased snaps are likely to carry over to this week's game against the Cardinals.

Fred Davis played 58 snaps in Week 1 compared to 38 for Chris Cooley. On third downs, Davis was the primary tight end lined up with three receivers. The usage pattern was similar at the goal-line, with Davis on the field while Cooley stood on the sideline for all three offensive touchdowns. It's possible that Cooley is simply being eased back in from a balky knee. For the time being, though, Davis is the featured tight end in this offense. Pick him up off the waiver wire in all leagues.

Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that he will continue to run two-tight end sets heavily going forward. The Redskins lined up in multiple tight end sets on nearly 80 percent of their plays in Week 1. "What a couple of tight ends enable you to do is present a different package to the defense," Shanahan said. The Redskins appear to finally see how effective Davis can be as a pass-catcher and will get him on the field despite Chris Cooley's health.

Rex Grossman is under the impression that the Redskins will go heavy on two-tight end sets this season. The concern with Fred Davis is playing time, not performance. "You'll see us in a lot of two-tight end situations for the rest of the year," Grossman insisted, adding that Davis can "stretch the field vertically as well as any tight end in the league." Davis finished Week 1 with five catches for 105 yards, but keep in mind he only had six targets. We love what we've seen of Davis every time he's played. Just be cautious before considering him a locked-in TE1.

Fred Davis admitted that there is no set plan for how much he'll be used going forward. "I don't really have an idea," Davis said of how much he'll be used. "Just go game-to-game and see what happens." The highly talented Davis won't come out and say it, but he's a better option than Chris Cooley in the passing game right now. Yesterday, Davis racked up six targets and 105 yards while Cooley recorded just three catches and 21 yards. We're seeing a changing of the guard here.
