Speaking at the Packers' annual charity softball game Sunday, DuJuan Harris (lung cyst) confirmed he'll be ready for the start of training camp. Harris missed minicamp after a cyst was found on his lung during his pre-camp physical. He promised to be "110 percent" soon, and it sounds like he will be. Harris participated fully in the softball game, swinging a bat and playing in the field. He's a candidate for change-of-pace carries behind Eddie Lacy.

A cyst was found on Packers RB DuJuan Harris' lung during a physical, but he said he should be "110 percent very soon." Players go through physicals before minicamps for reasons like this. Per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, coach Mike McCarthy said he's hopeful Harris will be available for the start of training camp. When he returns to action, the 24-year-old Harris will work to secure a role in a backfield with two new prominent members in rookies Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin.

Coach Mike McCarthy singled out RB DuJuan Harris for praise Tuesday. McCarthy had problems with the lingering health issues of James Starks and Alex Green, but wished he got his hands on Harris earlier in the season. "Once he got ready, I felt great about the way DuJuan finished the season," McCarthy said. We can tentatively pencil Harris in on top of the Packers' committee while we wait to see what kind of talent they add to the position.

The Packers reportedly "feel good" about second-year RB DuJuan Harris and "would be satisfied" using him in a 2013 rotation. The Packers do not view 5-foot-7, 197-pound Harris as a workhorse, but it sounds like they have every intention of using him in a committee. Harris currently sits above Alex Green, James Starks, and Brandon Saine on Green Bay's depth chart. If GM Ted Thompson doesn't pick up a free agent like Ahmad Bradshaw on the cheap, we'd expect the Packers to draft a back on the first or second day.

RB coach Alex Van Pelt suggested that the Packers don't view DuJuan Harris as a potential workhorse back.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects the Packers to pursue a "go-to back" this offseason. The Journal-Sentinel characterizes postseason lead rusher DuJuan Harris as a "change-of-pace" back. The Packers realized in 2012 that they needed a foundation run game, trying desperately to fit Cedric Benson and later Alex Green into the role. They finished 16th in rushing attempts, but 22nd in yards per carry. Benson is not expected back, and James Starks may not return, either.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette suggests DuJuan Harris is "perhaps the best bet" among the players currently on the roster to open next season as the starting tailback. We wouldn't bet heavily on it. The Press-Gazette concedes the Packers will have to decide if Harris has the size to be the primary back or if he's better suited to the change-of-pace role. Although Alex Green is talking as if he will a major role in 2013, the local papers believe James Starks' roster spot is far from safe at $1.3 million. The Packers will have to decide whether to take another chance on Cedric Benson or perhaps bring another free agent or draft pick.

DuJuan Harris rushed 11 times for 53 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 11 yards in Green Bay's Divisional Round playoff loss to San Francisco. Harris made a couple of big-time cuts on his 18-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. He's shown himself to be an effective "space" back, with smooth hands, a muscular lower body, and impressive balance that allows Harris to be a deceptively efficient tackle breaker. Although Harris seems unlikely to return as Green Bay's starting tailback in 2013, he should have a roster spot locked up on his minimum salary of $555,000.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel considers DuJuan Harris "likely to split time with" James Starks (knee) in Saturday's game at San Francisco. The takeaway here is that Starks has leapfrogged Ryan Grant and Alex Green on the depth chart for what will be his first game in over a month. The Journal-Sentinel concedes that Harris "may render the other backs unnecessary" if he is effective early in the game.

Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that DuJuan Harris "has something to do" with the Packers' growing focus on the ground attack. "He's a pretty cool customer," added McCarthy. "I don't think a lot gets him excited. He's a steady personality. He's getting better." Harris clearly has the hot hand in the Green Bay backfield, though next week's matchup is tougher at San Francisco. Alex Green didn't leave the sidelines for a second straight week while Ryan Grant was limited to 14-of-68 snaps.
