DeMarcus Ware underwent successful right elbow surgery Tuesday.
Ware, who is a strong candidate for release or restructure, is not expected to miss any of the offseason program. He'll argue that the nerve issue in his elbow has contributed to the sharp decline in his play of late, and ESPN Dallas notes that Larry Allen has a similar procedure in 2002 and never had an issue again. Regardless, Ware isn't worth a $12.25 million base salary as he enters his age-32 season.

Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones says the team is "getting the lay of the land" with DeMarcus Ware's contract.
The same is true of Miles Austin. "Obviously, DeMarcus had a hell of a career, but when we're in the cap situation that we're in and obviously counting as much as he is obviously you have to look at it along with several others," Jones admitted. Austin is considered as good as gone, but it's unclear how serious of a candidate Ware is to be released. He'll certainly be asked to reduce his $12.25 million base salary.

The Cowboys have yet to open contract discussions with RE DeMarcus Ware.
Dallas is currently a whopping $23.8 million over the salary cap. Coming off an injury-riddled six-sack season, Ware is owed $12.25 million in base salary. It's still very much a possibility that the Cowboys will have to release Ware outright, the likelihood of which grows every day the sides don't negotiate.

DeMarcus Ware hopes to miss less practice time in 2014.
"I feel when I practice more or just practice in general I do play better," Ware said. "When you're out there, you do your reps, you've seen it, but there's nothing like simulating going against full speed." Ware has been a constant presence on the injury report the past two seasons, missing the first three games of his career in 2013. Going on 32 and set for elbow surgery, there's little reason to believe an aging Ware is going to be more durable in 2014.

DeMarcus Ware will undergo right elbow surgery on February 18, and expects to participate in "most" of the Cowboys' offseason program.
"It's been killing me," Ware said of his elbow. "It's hurt really bad and that's why I would wear an elbow pad to stop from getting it hit but that didn't do much. It would get irritated even when it was barely touched." Ware said the injury sometimes sapped his power last season. This will be the second straight offseason Ware has gone under the knife. He had his right shoulder operated on in 2013. Going on 32, the Cowboys have to hope Ware isn't beginning to break down.

In January Cowboys DE DeMarcus Ware said he would likely undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow in the offseason, but reportedly no surgery has been scheduled.
Ware opted to rest the same elbow last offseason instead of going under the knife. He could make a similar decision this time around. Ware only posted six sacks and missed the first three games of his career while dealing with a series of nagging injuries in 2013.

ESPN Dallas reports DeMarcus Ware does not expect to get cut, and is not open to a pay-cut.
Per reporter Calvin Watkins, Ware is open to restructuring. Going on 32, Ware is due a non-guaranteed $26 million over the next two seasons. A restructure would either come in the form of a short extension, or pushing some of his $12.25 million 2014 salary down the road in the form of a bonus. Expected to undergo arthroscopic elbow surgery this offseason, Ware missed the first three games of his career this season, and tallied only six sacks. Ware won't be cut, but he'll be on the spot in 2014.

Cowboys LB DeMarcus Ware (elbow) said he'll likely undergo arthroscopic elbow surgery at some point this offseason.
It's just a minor procedure and shouldn't impact his status for training camp. Ware missed three games this season due to multiple injuries and is coming off a career-low six sacks. He's set to make $12.25 million in 2014, but is widely expected to restructure his contract.

Speaking Tuesday, DeMarcus Ware (quad/thigh) said there was "no doubt" he'll be ready for Sunday's game against the Giants.
When last we saw Ware in Week 10, he was dragging his leg against the Saints, but he never checked out of the game. Dallas' bye week came at a good time for its top pass rusher. Ware likely still isn't 100 percent, but he'll be active and starting against the G-Men.
