Swift (hip) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
EDGE Analysis
Though Swift's reps were capped on account of the hip injury for the second day in a row, coach Matt Patricia hasn't suggested the rookie is in any real danger of missing Sunday's season opener versus the Bears. If available, Swift will likely be part of a timeshare in a Detroit backfield that includes Kerryon Johnson, Adrian Peterson and potentially, second-year man Ty Johnson.

Swift was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to a hip injury.
EDGE Analysis
Swift has been hampered by an undisclosed injury since mid-August, but the Lions' first practice report of 2020 revealed the nature of the rookie's issue. While Swift's status for Sunday's season opener against the Bears tentatively looks up in the air, he'll have two more chances to increase his participation in practice and erase any concern about his availability. With veteran Adrian Peterson having joined Detroit's backfield over the weekend, Swift could find himself in a backfield committee if he gains clearance for Week 1.

Swift (undisclosed) is facing additional backfield competition for reps from Adrian Peterson, who signed a one-year contract with the Lions on Sunday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Swift and Kerryon Johnson are still expected to handle a bulk of the workload to begin the season, but Peterson has commanded carries at every stop during his 13-year career, so he'll cut into their touches to some degree. It doesn't help that Swift has missed so many practices with an undisclosed injury, but once he's healthy, the rookie second-round pick is expected to pull away as the lead back. He's clearly the most dynamic of the bunch and has impressed with his pass-catching ability early in camp. Peterson can't compete with Swift in the latter, so he should be considered a dependable, veteran backup that may chip away at Swift's ceiling but leaves a consistent workload for the rookie.

Swift (undisclosed) made it through Monday's limited practice without any setbacks and could handle a similar workload Tuesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Swift still hasn't been cleared for full-team work, but Chris Burke of The Athletic reports that the rookie went through positional drills in pads at Monday's practice. It sounds like Swift is on track for Week 1 against the Bears, though his role may be impacted by all the missed practice time.

Swift (undisclosed) will be a limited practice participant Monday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Swift also saw some limited work last Wednesday but otherwise has mostly been absent for the past week and a half. His injury isn't thought to be serious, but both Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press and Kyle Meinke of MLive.com have suggested the missed practice time could impact Swift's role early in the season. Kerryon Johnson would be the obvious beneficiary if the Lions don't think Swift is ready for a large quantity of snaps.

Swift's continued absence from practice with an undisclosed injury could have a negative impact on his Week 1 role, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Swift suffered his injury in the Lions' third padded practice, bringing his fast start to training camp to a screeching halt. He should still have a role in the offense if he's healthy enough to play in the season opener against Chicago, but it is possible the missed practice time tilts the Week 1 workload more in Kerryon Johnson's favor. In any case, Swift missed another practice session Friday.

Swift (undisclosed) won't practice Thursday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Swift missed a few days of practice before returning Wednesday as a limited participant. There hasn't been any report of a setback, so it's possible the Lions are just holding him out to be cautious. Missed practice time is never great for a rookie, but Swift should still be a big part of the team's Week 1 game-plan if he's healthy enough to play.

Swift (undisclosed) will be a limited practice participant Wednesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Swift's ability to return to work a few days after sitting out practice suggests his undisclosed injury isn't serious, but he nonetheless missed out on a few chances to make an impression with the first-team offense. The rookie is battling Kerryon Johnson for playing time in what likely will be a committee backfield. Though Johnson and Swift profile as the frontrunners to handle most of the snaps, there's also some chance Bo Scarbrough (undisclosed) could steal short-yardage work, and other backs like -- Ty Johnson, Jason Huntley, Jonathan Williams could also vie for small roles.

Swift did not take part in practice Friday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Twentyman didn't have an immediate reason for Swift's absence from practice, but he and Bo Scarborough (undisclosed) were reportedly both out of commission. Assuming the absence isn't expected to be a long one, Swift, who has impressed as a receiver early in camp, should be a major factor in the Lions' backfield as a rookie.

Swift has impressed as a receiver thus far into training camp, Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The report notes that Swift has looked like anything but a rookie. Specifically, the Georgia product hasn't had an issue running routes against linebackers or safeties, regardless of whether Swift lines up in the slot, out wide, or out of the backfield. With Kerryon Johnson (undisclosed) missing reps Tuesday -- though possibly for maintenance reasons -- Swift is probably getting plenty of reps as a runner as well.
