Swift (concussion) is listed as inactive Thursday against the Texans.
EDGE Analysis
Swift made some progress through the concussion protocol this week, wrapping it up with back-to-back limited sessions. Still, it wasn't enough to gain clearance to play. Swift will miss his second game in a row as a result, leaving Kerryon Johnson and Adrian Peterson to carry the load out of the Lions backfield. Swift's next chance to suit up arrives Sunday, Dec. 6 at Chicago.

Swift (concussion) is unlikely to play Thursday against the Texans, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Confirmation of Swift's status will arrive when the Lions' inactives are released prior to the team's 12:30 ET kickoff. If Swift is unavailable, Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson would be in line to lead Detroit's backfield Thursday.

Swift (concussion) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Texans, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Swift has managed to log back-to-back limited practice sessions since beginning the week as a non-participant. The rookie running back remains in the league's five-step concussion protocol as of Wednesday afternoon, but he has a shot to gain full clearance in time to play Thanksgiving Day. If Swift can't go, however, Kerryon Johnson and Adrian Peterson will lead Detroit's backfield.

Swift (concussion) was limited particpant in Tuesday's walkthrough practice, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After being listed as DNP on Monday's practice estimate, Swift's limited session Tuesday signals that he's making progress in the league's five-step concussion protocol. The rookie second-round pick has a shot to play in the Thanksgiving Day game against Houston, but he'll first need to be cleared by an independent neurologist. If he's not cleared in time, Kerryon Johnson and Adrian Peterson figure to handle the backfield reps once again.

Swift (concussion) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated injury report, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie second-round pick sat out Sunday's loss to the Panthers after entering the concussion protocol, and he'll only have a couple additional days to clear the protocol for Thursday's matchup with Houston. Swift likely will need to return to practice in some capacity in the next two days to have a chance of suiting up Thanksgiving Day. Kerryon Johnson played 70 percent of the offensive snaps and had eight touches for 38 yards from scrimmage with Swift sidelined against Carolina, while Adrian Peterson rushed six times for 17 yards.

Swift (concussion) won't play in Sunday's game against the Panthers, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Swift entered the concussion protocol Thursday, giving him little-to-no chance to be ready for Sunday's game. It's also possible he misses a second contest, as the Lions have their customary Thanksgiving Day game next Thursday against the Texans. Adrian Peterson figures to serve as the lead ballcarrier while Swift is out, with Kerryon Johnson likely handling most of the passing situations. It's a tough break for the rookie after he busted loose for 149 total yards and a touchdown in Detroit's Week 10 win over Washington.

Head coach Matt Patricia acknowledged Friday that it will be "difficult" for Swift (concussion) to play Sunday against the Panthers, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Patricia noted that the Lions are "doing our diligence" with Swift, but with the game just a couple days away, the rookie has limited time to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol. The Lions will provide another update on Swift's status after Friday's practice comes to a close. If Swift is indeed unable to go Week 11, Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson would be in line to split the bulk of the backfield work in some fashion.

Swift didn't practice Thursday after being diagnosed with a concussion.
EDGE Analysis
Swift wasn't included on the Lions' initial Week 11 injury report that was released Wednesday, but he may have either picked up the concussion in practice that day or experienced delayed symptoms of the head injury coming out of last weekend's win over Washington. Whatever the case, Swift's entry into the NFL's five-step concussion protocol this late in the week will make it difficult for him to gain clearance ahead of Sunday's game against the Panthers, a disappointing development after the rookie appeared to lock down a three-down role by compiling 147 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown Week 10. Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson would likely split reps out of the backfield if Swift isn't able to suit up in Carolina.

Swift logged 16 carries for 81 yards while catching all five of his targets for 68 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 30-27 win over Washington.
EDGE Analysis
In his first career start, Swift handled 21 touches compared to six between Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson combined. While Swift's efficiency both through the air and on the ground against a solid Washington defensive front shouldn't give the Lions coaching staff any reason to go away from him, it's not certain the committee approach at running back is over in Detroit. How Swift is used in Week 11 against a declining Panthers defense will be telling.

Swift is expected to serve as Detroit's starting running back Sunday against Washington, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
According to Pelissero, the Lions still plan to use a three-man backfield mix that includes Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson, but Swift will at least be on the field for Detroit's first play of the afternoon. The rookie had already seen his playing time pick up in the previous three weeks, clearing 40 percent offensive snap shares in all of those contests. While Detroit likely won't ask Swift to handle anything resembling a bell-cow role, the fact that he's being listed as a starter ahead of Peterson for the first time this season at least offers hope that the 21-year-old will see an uptick in touches over the second half of the campaign.
