Christian Hackenberg
QB FA
Hackenberg (coach's decision) is listed as inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Browns.
EDGE Analysis
Hackenberg, the Jets' second-round draft pick, has yet to see an NFL snap this season. He had an opportunity to move up the depth chart due to the ACL injury suffered by Geno Smith, but that role instead appears to be reserved for Bryce Petty. Ryan Fitzpatrick is slated to start for the Jets on Sunday, but if he continues to struggle, the Jets soon may have to see what they have in the 21-year-old Hackenberg. It won't be in Week 8, however.

Hackenberg did not play in Friday's preseason game against Washington, and he is unlikely to play in the Jets' third preseason game next week against the Giants, the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bryce Petty played the entire second half for the Jets and appears to be in serious contention for the backup job. With the Jets expected to play most of their starters into the second half against the Giants, Hackenberg will only have their final preseason game to make a case for a roster spot.

The Jets selected Hackenberg in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 51st overall.
EDGE Analysis
Hackenberg was profoundly ineffective for his last two years at Penn State, but his arm talent gets him drafted in the second round anyway. All of pocket presence, route progressions and accuracy were huge problems for Hackenberg, so the Jets are banking on the theory that all of Hackenberg's struggles were the fault of Penn State coaches. Few players are given so much benefit of the doubt, but Hackenberg definitely has the arm to develop into a starter if the rest of his game comes along.
